Boondi Dam Esperance - Boondi Rock/Dam - Toodyay Our last night in Esperance it rained all night, but stopped in the early hours of the morning. We packed up and headed out of Esperance before it started again, heading north to get away from the rain. We need to be in Northam for the car service on Friday so planned to stay somewhere between Esperance and Northam overnight, then continue to Toodyay where we will stay for a couple of nights.
Stopping for lunch at Coolgardie we decided to continue on to Boondi Rock and check out the campground. When we arrived at Boondi we were alone - no other campers. We set up camp and collected some firewood in preparation for the cold night, then went for a walk around the dam and rock. The dam was built originally to supply water for the Northam to Kalgoorlie train line (that used to service the goldfields). It is pretty amazing when you think of the manual work that went into carving stone from the rock and funnelling the water from the rock into the dam - I love rock catchments.
Late in the afternoon another two campers came into the

Boondi Dam - camp setup and searching for firewood campground and set up. Still very quiet for a freecamp. Unfortunately we had another visitor at about midnight - a car drove in and stopped next to us, car running and headlights blasting into our camper while they checked out the dam... Sightseeing at midnight! And with no regard to the noise they make or whether they are disturbing other people. They drove around the campground a few times (after being told to bugger off) then eventually left - some people still amaze me with their lack of consideration for others....
The next morning we managed to pack up dry, but the rain didn't stay away for long. It caught up with us about half way to Northam, so we stopped for lunch and wandered around town for a while, hoping that the storm would blow away before we arrived at Toodyay to set up camp. The plan worked well and we were able to set up in the dry. The caravan park is just out of town (Toodyay) and is in a bushland setting with a lot of birdlife. Kevin made friends with the 28 Parrots straight away 😊 Although we managed to avoid the rain, we haven't

Boodi Rock - catchment for the dam avoided the cold. That night would have to be the coldest night of the entire trip.
The next morning, while Kevin did the necessary with the car, I did the necessary with the laundry - then we explored the local area. Ian and Robyn arrived later in the afternoon we enjoyed a BBQ dinner together before they headed off the next morning to the Pinnacles. Kevin had purchased a small fan heater that morning as we had a powered site and we didn't want another freezing night. It was toasty warm in the camper - even though we turned it off when we went to bed, it had taken the chill off the air and we had a nice warm night.
As the weather is better here, but is still wet down south, we decided to spend another night at Toodyay and do a day trip to New Norcia.
