What a day!!
We woke up early to meet the bus to the aerodrome at 8.15. None of the kids have ever flown on a plane before so they were VERY excited. I wasn't really nervous until we stepped out on the Tarmac and it dawned on me that the last time I was in a plane this small was about 34 years ago! Olivia sat with me and held my hand very tightly as we took off but she soon relaxed and was amazed by the scenery below us as we all were. It was just beautiful looking over the mudflats surrounding Derby. We had been in the air for about ten minutes when I turned around to look at jack and Luke. OMG! Jack was grey and didn't look well at all. I thought to myself - ohh no he is going to vomit! Haha I was thinking ohh please don't be sick, the plane will stink something awful and all the other people on board won't be happy! Haha (there were 13 in our group). Luckily he wasnt physically sick but poor Jack, flying in a small plane certainly isn't his thing!
We landed on the
water and I was amazed at how gentle a water landing is. We arrived at the pontoon and helped ourself to drinks and nibbles. It took Jack about 20mins to feel better as we went down for the shark feeding. The boys were very excited to jump in the cage with their snorkel gear on and check out the sharks from under the water. I stayed out - someone had to be chief photographer!! (That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! Haha).
After the shark feeding we boarded one of the boats for a tour of Talbot Bay and the surrounding creeks. It is such a beautiful area with large sweeping gorges, red rock and even one section of rock that was twisted and warped due to the volcanic activity around it millions of years ago.
It was then over for our first look at the Horizontal waterfalls and a jet boat ride through them. What a barrel of laughs and a whole heap of fun that was!! We did five runs through the waterfalls, the kids giggling and laughing the entire time. The skipper of the boat was great, I'm sure he made the water intentionally
splash up all over Jjacka Nd Luke who were sitting right near the edge of the boat Loving every second of it! All up we went on the boat on three separate occasions.
They provided us with a barramundi lunch, drinks and a stunning location. The kids watch for about an hour as they were feeding two big bull sharks that were hanging around. At one time one of the bull sharks was trying to pull a large fish off the rope and it flicked it's tail up and drenched us
The flight back was a bit longer than the flight in because we flew back over the Buccaneer Archipelago to look at all the islands. Again, just beautiful. Jack didn't get sick this time because I gave him a whole heap of me ties to chew and this helped his ears to pop.
It was a wonderful day and we are really glad we decided to do it, definitely money well spent.
Now onto the next part of our journey - Tunnel Creek, Windjana Gorge and The mighty Gibb River Road..................
