He found us ! There were presents under our tree.
Christmas Day in Hopetoun, WA

Waking at around 7.00am it was already hot and it dawned, (excuse the pun!), on us that back at home in Victoria everyone would be well under way with lunch preparations having already done ‘the Christmas present thing’. Jackie, as normal when we all stir in the mornings, was ready to go out for her morning ablutions and with that we all jumped out of bed to discover that Santa had still found us even though we were ‘homeless’ and miles from anywhere, so clever! Quickly we all headed out for a shower before present opening.

Back in the Trakkie with champagne and orange juice in hand we took the pressies from under our little tree to the bed, Jackie, not being backward in this area, jumped in nosing all the packages looking for hers which she quickly found. It is pretty hard for anyone to disguise the smell of a smoked pigs ear and she quickly ripped the wrapping off to discover her Christmas treat and was about to devour it on the bed when she was short shifted off it ! Trish and I then opened our presents whilst Jackie had two

more to open as well, more squeaky toys!. Travelling in a van the choice of presents is quite obvious, CD’s, DVD’s and books, and that is mostly what we received. It was fun sitting in the Trakkie together enjoying the moment and thinking that back in Victoria everyone was now getting ready to sit down to lunch.

Next on my agenda was to get the spit fired up and ready to cook our loin of pork and some roast veges for our Christmas dinner. Meanwhile preparation of some nibbles was taking place in the Trakkie and by the time we had the roast going on the spit, both Trish and I were into our first proper celebratory drink of the day. The day was not getting any cooler either so with me slaving over the spit the first beer was well received!

Dinner was planned to be for mid-afternoon and all was looking good for this to be the case which left time to socialise and enjoy snacks and drinks with fellow campers. Our dinner was ready and Trish had set up a Christmas table under the awning and with a bottle of Pitchfork SSB from Hayshed Winery

It is hard not to get carried away with the excitement of it all !
near Margaret River chilled and ready, we sat down to enjoy our feast.

After cleaning up and reorganising the Trakkie after the activities of the day, it was now late afternoon and with a bottle of champagne and a kilo of prawns in tow, we all headed to the beach for a swim and some more Christmas fare. Jackie took her ball as usual and demanded a game and a paddle in the water before she let us sit down quietly to consume some prawns accompanied by a Rowanston Blanc de Noir, (Fredo, only one left now!), and reflect on our Christmas Day.

Christmas Day in Hopetoun was memorable on many accounts and as we raised a glass to family and friends we thought it was up there with the best of them.

Family Christmas at Wavecrest
Having to 'work' on Christmas Day wasn't too bad as our place of work is the quiet Wavecrest Village and Caravan Park. The park was full of holiday people, we had our delish hot lunch of turkey and all the trimmings with a seafood platter to start. Our family had come from Perth, Bunbury and central wheatbelt. So they appreciated the cool breeze blowing that day. The pool was a treat to relax by, plenty of talk and laughter with the gift opening of course. Yeah, some people have to work Christmas day and it was our luck that we've good place to work in. No wonder the family like to come down to this delightful town and enjoy all it has to offer. Thanks to my fantastic family for joining us.

enough ? ...never!
If you are going to be a grey nomad and 'blend in' to the scene, you have to look the part and the 'fuzz' as you call it, is part of the disguise to go unnoticed in their midst and hear all the tall tales and stories that these strange folk that join caravan clubs are renowned for. In fact it is important to know where they are going so that you can avoid them...information is knowledge...hehe
