Overlooking Perth from Kings Park.
Hello everybody. Been in a Perth nearly a week now and can't believe where the time has gone - if this is anything to go by, we will be flying home before we know it!! A beautiful city and very clean and spacious. There are not many people here either so nothing is crowded or overrun - makes a pleasant change. No intimidating groups of teenagers, no graffiti, no hassle - could easily live here!
Our apartment is basic but nice and extremely well located. Walking distance to the city and buses, loads around here including some lovely parks for kiera. (www.brownelea.com.au) We have spent the day today lazing around the pool and getting a suntan and it is lovely. Latte and cake at the pattiserie across the road this morning (still miss Thorntons Julie!!) and reading the papers - it couldn't get much better. We have enjoyed ourselves exploring the city and getting around on the free buses, yes the buses in the city centre are free; therefore less traffic etc. On Thursday we went over to Rottnest Island (www.rottnessisland.com.au) on a boat trip; cruised down the Swan River to Freemantle then changed boats on to a catamaran for the

trip to Rottnest. What a gorgeus island, picture postcard blue skies, white beaches and hardly any people. There is a bus which goes all the way round and you can just get on and off where you like. Got off at Little Salmon Bay and Rik went snorkelling - sea a touch cold though!! - and saw "some big fish". Kiera wouldn't venture in as there was quite a chill wind even though it was about 23 degrees. We then went on the Geordie Bay on the other side of the island which was sheltered from the wind and spend a wonderful three hours swimming and snorkelling and a stingray swam was swimming within 2ft of us - Kieras face was a picture of amazement! Saw the famous "Quokkas" which were everywhere - personally felt they were a cross between a rat and a squirrel so can't say I was overly impressed!! Topped it all off by seeing 3 dolphins swimming in the river on the way home.
We are finding it quite a challenge to live within our budget, accustomed as we are to just buying what we want when we want, but it is good to do and

teaching us the value of money!! You will be amused to know our organic eating has had to go out of the window!!!
We are off to Mandurah on Monday for a week which is about 75km south of Perth. Looks like there will be plenty to do there with a lovely beach etc. Staying at the www.mandurahholidayvillage.com.au so a bit more interaction for Kiera hopefully. Will update when I can before we fly to Darwin next Monday (19th June). Haven't been able to put any photos on yet as I haven't had the photos transferred to disc, I am very aware of not wanting to come back to hundreds of photos so am trying to be good. Thank you for all your messages, it is really lovely to get them. Enjoy the sunshine and take care
Lots of Love

Dear Kiera, I can see that you are having a wonderful time already. It has been very hot here since you left! But have been unable to swim because of the water shortage. We did country dancing at the church fete on Saturday- Mum wasn't too impressed as it was at the same time as the England match! (Dancing was lovely-Mum). Hope you have a wonderful time in Darwin, Love from Rachel xx
