Having finished working at Dandaragan about a week ago. We Finally had Jessie ready to leave Soulhaven. It was nice to be back on the road, just a shame the weather was horrible, the wind was howling and the rain lashing down. We popped in to see Ledge point on the way to Lancelin, not really a lot to see there so carried on our way to Lancelin. Where we camped the night and also enjoy a meal out at the local pub to celebrate being back on the road. The following day we attempted to drive the track from Lancelin to Cervantes. Keen to try out our 4WD skill we headed up in to the sand dunes to try and find the start of the track. On the third sand dune in we almost came ... read more

The hot spell (40 degree nonsense) seemed to end on Sunday night...we had thunder storms...well, i say thunder storms...it was just thunder and lightening with about 5 specks of rain! Im not exaggerrating! Monday I got driven to 'Ledge Point'- about an hour away up the coast. Gill's friend's family owns a beach shack there...that is where we stayed! We were a stone's throw from the beach! Yum yum! Finally got to have a swim in the sea- which is as warm as a bath! Delicious! Went to lancelin to visit his cousin- a cray fisherman. there's a pub there...and a fish and chip shop...oh and some beach! We also went out on his little fishing boat...it was extremley scary at first...and then i loved it! As all that consists of ledge point is beach and ... read more

Said our goodbyes and headed off on the road over to the coast. Our first stop is Lancelin, a small coastal town famous for the Ocean Classic a windsurfing event which takes place in January. Both really impressed by the town, its only a small seaside town, but its really friendly and chilled out. Unfortunately the storm last night has played hell with the wind direction and the wind is now off shore. Warner, the local surf hire dude was not keen to rent out some kit as he was worried Paul might trash it on the reef (is his reputation here before him?), but there were a few guys out and it did look fairly cool... Checked into the Lancelin YHA as we are having to be a bit more careful with out cash, its ... read more

As I left Geraldton the clouds closed in for the first time in months. Then the heavens opened and it started to rain. Listening to the radio on the way down you would have thought it was Christmas. Farmers and the like were literally dancing in the streets as this was the first rain they had seen for years. Probably wasn’t appropriate for me to ask when it was likely to stop!! When it does finally rain in WA it really knows how to. Coming from the UK I’m used to driving in rain but this was something else. The roads aren’t designed to channel the water away and it’s all you can do to hold onto the car as you aquaplane down the road with visibility not much greater than the end of the bonnet. ... read more

The distances between places in Western Australia are unbelievable, you can drive for about 8 hours and only see two petrol stations, an emu or two and 333 thousand dead and rotting Kangaroo Carcasses (lovely!). Thus, we have had to stop in a couple of places with no real tourist attractions but just for a nights sleep before the next mammoth journey into the dessert. Most of these places have been all right, and we really quite liked Port Hedland, however Dongara was another story. We had to stop in Dongara on our way to Lancelin and booked in to the YHA there. We arrived late afternoon and were greeted by the friendly owner who told us that we were staying in a 'really nice room' so we were pretty chuffed. It turns out that we ... read more
