25-7-10 was washing windows in a flat on eric street cottesloe. they had racks of clothing and the boy was trying them on. i said what about this new flag design. the mother, the son and the manager all like it. seems the lad of eighteen started as a school project at fourteen what now is 'ocean zone' label. they're going to put flag on board shorts and market it. i've been looking for these people for ten years! very exciting. so in a month the samples will come out and the reps will take them to the retailers for orders. this is the spring season and in time for australia day. they've got online sales and may make a whole page highlighting the product. they're not yet ready for women's two piece but if this ... read more

june 27 2010. on wednesday i saw threee cars with stickers! these days even one is rare. it is nice to be reminded of that glorious time when you couldn't go a day without seeing a sticker in the western suburbs. yesterday nedlands ranger at gaia reserve where i have been planting for fifteen years said they were going to 'prune' plants due to blocking views from mansions. i dread to think what they'll do. am remaining calm although i did give him a serve. 'harder they come' tune ringing in my mind. 'persecutions you must bear. win or lose you've got to get your share. but your mind's set on a dream...'. latest on flag is to get dan at 'naked fig' restaurant to list my best youtube on flagoz website. it can currently be ... read more

may 31 2010. one day segues into another and i find sleep is a bland space between two lives. i sat fireside at the cottesloe hotel and watched the sun slide down the clouded sky into the sea. i love the space, the void, the quiet emptiness that is western australia. the pub was virtually empty. monday nightpoker being setup for seven. the day passed with little work in windowwashing. i went to the dunes and planted the last of my ninetythree starts. yesterday anthony came down with a tray and we put in thirty. i am soothed by thoughts of gaia as i labour in the sand. the optimism of a green shoot, the potential of woody expansion. my sortie to the hills came unglued when mad michael got into the car and started barking ... read more

may 27 2010. winter rains have finally arrived. went to apace in north fremantle yesterday and got 37 plants for the north cottesloe gaia reserve. not much work on so i went there and planted 24 before the rain came in. last night vicious winds mean the existant vegetation will have had the first of its winter 'trim' that is to say defoliation through thrashing. it happens every year. the positive side is that we now have plants growing side by side so they are creating shelter for each other. flagwise, ray martin's sixty minute segment on flag and barry cohen's 'the australian' article mean the flag issue bubbles along. i was doing some research on the red ensign, the red version of the courrent flag. interestinly, the australian war memorial in canberra has ten red ... read more

It's Christmas day and it's hot! Well it's not so hot now as it's 9.30pm but we have spent the entire day outside on the beach. It has been wonderful but very strange. It is not Christmas like we know it and I am insanely jealous that at home there is snow! That said we did enjoy a feast of prawns, smoked salmon, garlic bread and herby potatoes which we ate in the sun while looking at the ocean so we can't really complain. We have also enjoyed a few bottles of fizz and watched an amazing sunset over the ocean. This is just a quick entry as I'm sure you all have plenty of things to do today - is that turkey I smell burning?! We just want to wish you all a very merry ... read more
