This is not going to be a huge epic blog that we usually write, but possibly one of those aid-memoir’s really. We are more than 2/3rds of the way through our summer and the temperature is Hhhhhhhhhh Hot ! and has been officially recorded as the hottest 4 days over 40 degree’s in 80 years. The morning have been spectacular really warm with that beautiful feel but the nights have not been down below 26 degree’s so sleeping on top of the bed is the order of the day. Today Wednesday (10/02/2016) was recorded at 42.3 Degree's C which is just gorgeous as long as you do not spend to much time in the sun. The hottest temperature we have experience in Australia was on the and was covered in a blog called All aboard the ... read more

Going Loco On Sunday the 12 July, we had been invited to go and have a steam train journey and our day went like this. Andy and Karen Brian and Nesta and Caroline and myself all met at the Pinjarra Bakery at about 8.15 what an awesome place to start any trip from, even though I am being fairly strict on myself, having lost 20 Kilo’s I still in to believe in not turning it to purgatory, so yippee it was going to be a Jolly swagman pie for my breakfast. Caroline had a Pasty and grumbled all the way through it suggesting it was not as good as the ones you get in Cornwall, I did make suggestions that if the pasties were so good in Cornwall she could go there, but she soon changed ... read more

11 July 2015 Wasn’t it the Beatles who said, I wanna hold your hand, Now I don’t want you guys drifting off to sleep, or hurting yourself out of sheer boredom but the above date was an important one for me and as this blog is not just for your entertainment, its also an aide memoir for us, so we can look back and go wow, do you remember when we did that.. Lets start with the simple stuff first. You know we drove 60,000 K’s circumnavigating Australia in 2008-2009 and when we did the only communications we had was a UHF radio, this only has line of site range. When we lived in Canberra and in the ACT 4 Wheel Drive Club we purchased a satellite phone, which was good but not quite the solution ... read more

04/07/2015 Whoo hoo the week end was here and our hearts are full of sadness, our dear dear friends Peter and Leigh Walker were on countdown to leave us. It has felt like a life time since we had met them on the Mandurah Caravan Park, we had only just arrived in Western Australia and we hit it off straight away. Let me tell you their story first as it’s a fascinating one!! Peter and Leigh had lived in Glen Innis in New South Wales, for I think all their life, Leigh was a librarian and Peter had been a cow man for 31 years as a manager of a farm, they also have a 100 acres of their own, and with his horse Scout and dogs Mate and Dash he had worked the land and ... read more

Work Week Hustle 22/05/2015 I had a medical appointment at the Royal Perth Hospital on Friday 22nd May, so parked the cruiser at Cockburn train station and went in to Perth on the train. I have lost 14 Kilo’s, my GP had suggested I do so as it was conducive to my ongoing health and had her parting word to me on the 28th of January were I don’t care how you do it, just do it! When I went back to see her on 23rd April I had lost 10 Kilo’s she asked me how I did it and I said through controlled starvation, she said the shedding of 10 Kilo’s was great but I needed to take more exercise, she didn’t really say to much on how I did it, but who cares I ... read more

What would you say If we asked you to go to work for just over two years on a 38 hour week for no pay, what would you say? No? Well we thought as much!!. Well amazingly this is Kangaroojack’s 800th Blog which represents that two years of work. And this blog is the diary of our entire life in Australia, warts and all. We have lived a very transparent life and have always done our very best to showcase Australia for what a truly beautiful and unique country it is and to best describe the things that we have done, the people we have met and the places we have been with honesty and integrity, we have made the most delightful friends and done the most amazing things and in the times of difficulty these ... read more

We were asked by the travel blog moderators if we would like to write the new Country Description for Australia as they thought the old one was out of date and it needed a refresh, we obviously accepted the offer as we felt capable of writing what was required. Caroline and I sat down and looked at Australia and wrote down what we considered a traveller would want to know about a country as a brief description, based on the fact that we only had between 250 and 300 words to write, this would be a snap shot of Australia. We started our country description, with Australia the Lucky Country, we truly believe it is, and we are truly grateful to be living here. We have fantastic weather, most of the time, a very small population, ... read more

14 & 15 March 2015 A while ago we had put our names down to help on the Life-cycle for Canteen charity bike ride, we offered our assistance to our then president of the Toyota Landcruiser Club and unfortunately all we could offer was a Saturday and Sunday, so Bob said he would see if he could make it work and call us back. Sure enough Bob did call back and accepted our offer of two days help and another of our members would do the final day on Monday when the bike ride would complete. There had been a lot of email traffic over this event as our job was to drive the support vehicle which was at the rear of the “Green Team” and our friend and fellow club members Jack and Sue were ... read more

Land of the Giants They say size matters, whoever “they” are and I guess it’s true, Australia has the biggest mining company in the world, and we also have the biggest open cut mine in the world, so without the need for one upmanship, we were excited that the Giants were coming to Perth and I believe that they were not visiting any other part of this massive country, so we were very privileged to get the opportunity to see them. For the past couple of months they were advertising on TV, the fact that the Giants were coming to Perth which would be part of the Perth International Arts Festival and this was the weekend they would be here. So first let me set the scene and tell you about where the Giants Come from. ... read more
