We were up bright and early for our winery day tour. A small bus came to pick us up and then headed into the city for the rest of the pickups. We had a full bus of about 24 people. We drove out of Melbourne and into the Yarra Valley known for it's wineries. Our first stop was at Yerring Farm, a small boutique winery. We were given instructions on how to properly critique the wine, swirling the glass, sniffing it all that fun stuff. Then we got to the best part, tasting! They had a bar set up with all kinds of wines to try and we could try as many as we wanted. They had a sweet chardonnay dessert wine that was my favorite. I think I tried like 10 different wines there. Next ... read more

On Saturday, Nichole, Brenna and I went on a wine tour through the Yarra Valley! It was an amazing day and I can't wait to do it again when Mom and Barry come to visit :) We loaded onto the bus in the city around 930am and headed out to the valley. Our tour guide's name was Richard and he played really good music on the ride to the valley. He played Hotel California (the live version...the BEST version), Queen, some other stuff...BUT he doesn't like the Moody Blues (Sorry Dad...I'm on your side, Moody Blues are awesome!) It was a little over an hour drive to the valley. Our first winery was a small one called Yering Farms. They do everything there (growing the fruit used in the wine, labeling, bottling, everything) and it was ... read more

Welcome to March!! Not long after Kellie and Ryan got here, they texted me one night to ask if we wanted to go and see Rod Stewart with them. Ricky wasn't keen and the tickets were a bit expensive as I wasn't working at the time. So they got tickets, and Caroline and Tucker got tickets, then another couple from England we are friend's with got tickets. Great! So, a couple of weeks ago I thought I would look on ebay on the off chance there was a ticket going...and there was!! I was well excited, although a little worried about the prospect of being outbid in the last few secs. But I took my chances and I won!! And I only paid $10 more than the original price. Excellent! We have been taking turns to ... read more

Okay, okay... I've been really slow in getting this online. I still have film I haven't developed yet because I haven't used up the roll. Yes, film. I got one of those waterproof disposable cameras so that I could take pics in the water but now I need somebody to invite me out to another warm beachfront so I can take more wet pictures. (Hint, hint. Anybody?) So the trip to Melbourne was fairly low-key. If you can call any trip that involves a wedding to be low key! Once the crazy festivities were done we did a family road trip out to the Yarra Valley to visit a couple of wineries. One was Domaine Chandon (of the Moet Chandon family) and the other was De Bortoli (home of the very yummy Noble One Botrytis ... read more

One thing we learned on our trip is that Australians have a sense of humor. And John Boucher, co-owner of the Kyneton Ridge Estate Winery, in Kyneton, Victoria State was no exception. Pointing to the huge, white tent that took up a large portion of his side yard, and where his stepson was to hold his wedding reception in two days, he made a suggestion to my fiancée, Megan, and I: “You should stay a couple of more days,” John said. “And make it a double ceremony.” We passed on the quickie wedding, but allowed John to pour us a several samples of his products. For only having been making wine for five years, John, and his wife, Pauline Russell, have their skills down so much so that I only needed one sample (but tried six) ... read more
