The trip is getting closer now. The Outback drawers are in. Look good and very practical. With only 42 days left (yes I know I have a countdown) before we take off time is now running out. I even starting packing the drawers today to test to see how things will fit in. the next and last big piece is adding a new winch. The one I had broke on the last trip. Winch will get in next week.... read more

OK, since the last post the Troopy has had brush bars and side steps added to provide added protection against kangaroos and also tight 4X 4 tracks. This weekend we are heading off to Coolabah for the long weekend with the grandkids. A test for the Cape York Trip. We will be isolated for 4 days. No running water, no power and no facilities. Test for the Troopy and us. Here is a link to where Coolabah is in NSW. http://www.whereis.com/nsw/coolabah-2831... read more

OK Now I have had to re write this post. We were waiting for new Black Widow draws to turn up and this afternoon I found out that Black Widow have gone into liquidation and the draws I had ordered will not be made. Not happy. I got my deposit back from TJM which is great. I have now already ordered draws from ARB using "Outback" draws. Their draws are of the same quality. I get them in 3 weeks time (earlier than the original draws). New update on our route. The towns we are going through to get to Cairns (which is the real start to our adventure are Echuca, Hay, Cobar, Bourke, Cunnamulla, Charleville, Tambo, Blackall, Barcaldine, Hughenden, Conjuboy, Ravenshoe, Atherton and Mareeba. Basically we will be taking the most direct route to Cairns. ... read more

With the roof all done it was time to work inside the car. The following have been added: Internal cupboards at the back converting from 11seat down to 5 seat Water tank, fridge, CB Radio, sand flag, engine and transmission temp monitor, winch, tow bar, dual battery system, solar panel, ARB air pump and inbuilt 240v inverter. Just a note that we do not like the practicality of the configuration and I have purchased a black widow draw system to replace the current config. This will be installed in March. It will increase storage capacity 3 times over.... read more

The first stage of upgrading the Troopy was to have the car converted into a pop top camper. This meant the car roof needed to be cut off and then replaced with a fibreglass roof that has an inbuilt tent system. This was a hard decision to make at the time but has proven to be very convenient and particularly for the upcoming trip to the Cape.... read more

Well, here we go our first blog entry. We have set this blog up to be able to record our preparation and journey to Cape York mid 2015. I am new to blogging so be patient with me on this journey. I will post some photos of the car we are preparing for the trip. We will be travelling to the Cape with a Toyota Troop Carrier (Manufactured 2010). Six of the eight seats at the back have been removed and replaced by a kitchen type set up and also it has been converted into a pop top (the top was cut off and replaced with an inbuilt tent system). We have also added an inbuilt water tank and also rear diff locks and also a triple battery system with Solar battery support.... read more

Hi travel followers. Would you believe another "two" weeks have passed since the last blog and our time here at the Sunbury labour camp (Just kidding) is coming to an end as we have just about crossed off all the jobs that Ian had on his to do list (see photo). I must say it has been a great time for the both Lyn and I and a great big thanks to Ian and Sharon for having and putting up with us for the last month. I must also say it has been a great opportunity to get back into a certain amount of flexibility and fitness that nothing but good old hard physical work can achieve. Ahhhh. Nothing like concreting, painting, roofing, digging post holes and fencing, chopping down pine trees (14 of them) racking ... read more

Hi travel followers. We just realised it has been "three" weeks since our last blog and thought we had better do an update. After leaving Rochester we spent a couple of days in and around Bendigo before again spending a few days at Castlemaine. Both great places to visit, but we preferred Castlemaine as it is smaller and more traveller friendly. This includes the lovely little towns of Maldon, Hepburn Springs and Daylesford. All very nicely restored and kept historic villages. After Castlemaine we headed for a friends "Ian and Sharon) hobby farm at Sunbury (just north west of Melbourne) where we learnt that retirement can be HARD WORK. I.e. I have been helping Ian excavating, forming and concreting a slab, digging and concreting fence posts, building or extending to the patio awing and then painting ... read more
