Well we are off again. Preparing now for our trip to the Top end. This trip will take us to Katherine, Darwin and our ultimate destination Jabiru found in the Kakadu National Park. Now this sounds simple. Well maybe on paper but we have 3,774 kilometres (2,140 miles) to go just to get to Katherine. Our first three days will be on the road stopping at places like Port Augusta, Erldunda and Tennant Creek. Big drives in between each of those. Once in Katherine we will start the real holiday. In this entry i have included the maps showing where we are going.... read more

Well it is time for the Last post for this Trip. Day 16 is the day we arrive home. We started this final leg in Renmark South Australia. Normally we would stir at around 7.30am but we had agreed the night before that we would leave by 7.30am. Well we had a great and warm night sleep in spite of the outside temperature plummeting to -3 degrees. Thanks to the well insulated cabins we did not suffer the rath of this freezing temperature. Anyhow we left the cabins at 6.45am. Everyone, including the grandchildren had some sort of final burst of energy to get going early. By 9am we had reached Mildura and had crossed the border to Victoria with little fuss. Mildura had those famous arches and we could not help ourselves and stopped at ... read more

Hi everyone, we here we go again. Tonina and I are going on another 4X4 driving trip to the Red Centre of Australia. We will be taking our trusty Troop Carrier (Troopy), which by the way sleeps two comfortably in its expandable roof. We will be travelling with our son Paul, his wife Lisa and our three grandchildren. Also on this trip will be my sister and Tonina's brother and for those who don't know they are married to each other (in other words brother and sister married brother and sister). Anyhow with these three four wheel drives leaving on this trip we will be away from home for 16 days and in that time we will be travelling over 5,500 kilometers round trip. We will be travelling to the centre of Australia through mining country ... read more

It is very hard to pack for an unknown destination. Gotta pack for hot and cold. AND we have limited space to pack. We have luggage for two people including swags to go into the boot of an unknown car. I hope it will be a station wagon but I won't hold my breath. Apparently have to also add a Gerry can just in case we run out of petrol. ... read more

Hi everyone, at the end of this week I will be doing something I have never ever done before. I am joining 300 other people on an unknown adventure in unknown cars. We are all joined in our efforts to raise money for the Cancer Council and to date these 145 teams (teams of two in each car) have raised over $580,000 for the Cancer Council. I will be on this trip with my brother in law Xavier. He will be driving and I will be navigating and hopefully having the odd nap.. The cars we will get will be old bombs worth no more than $1,000. We are bringing some tools with us to the rally just in case our wheels fall off. Subject to internet availability I will blog everyday for 6 days starting ... read more

Hi everyone, this is mt last blog for this trip to Fraser island. We are home now. We spent the last two days travelling 1,900 kms to get home. It was an easy drive to the Big 4 park at Kingaroy. The park was nothing special. Just a place to sleep. We left at 7am to head off to Dubbo. We expected to get to Dubbo by 5pm and we were on schedule. We left Dubbo at 4am the next day. We got home at 1pm. Tonina and I headed to Sarah's place to surprise mum as they were having a mothers day lunch there. We were still in our shorts and thongs. It was a great end to the holiday to not only celebrate mothers day with my sisters and mum but to also celebrate ... read more

This is it. The time has come. Santa is knocking climbing down the chimney. We are too excited to describe. It has taken a whole year of planning and I am over the wait. Tomorrow morning at 5am we leave and start our journey of unknown experiences. A little excited, scared and tired all at the same time. Michael's wedding went as planned and I nearly kept my promise that I would not talk Troopy during the wedding day. I lost that bet. The bride was beautiful as was the groom. All went well. They are perfect for each other and we are so proud. Babies next. Tonina has cut her hair down to the lowest I have ever seen. I was very surprised as to how good she looks. A new woman. This picture below ... read more

Well everyone, it has been a hectic build up to the big day. A wedding and also a trip, my head is spinning. My son Michael is getting married on Saturday 9th May and we are leaving for the Cape at 5am on Tuesday 12th. A lot has happened since the last post The biggest of which I got new tyres (I have nearly spent as much money as one would spend on an expensive guitar (Joseph)). The Troopy is now done. I have turned the two fridges on today and also put on the solar panels to test everything. Also had to change the windscreen. Good thing I had RACV glass insurance. I got sprayed with rocks from a passing truck last week. Now have a brand new windscreen. Also no rust under screen and ... read more

OMG. I went to Suspension City in North Melbourne today to check on the Troopy suspension. I have added approximately 400kg to the Troopy (draws, water, goodies etc) and I was a little worried my poor Troopy was sagging. Well sagging is an understatement. The experts at Suspension city confirmed Troopy was a feeling a bit down and needed a lift. It took them three hours this morning to give Troopy an 11cm lift from the back. It is now so high I need an extension ladder to get in. This will make it easier to get through the OTL as I was a little worried about the back end not making it through the entries or exits. Should be ok now. I also bit the bullet and got a brand new winch.... read more
