Hi. I started my teaching course last monday and am fast realising that the students know way more about english grammar than i do. Still, its going well, been teaching most days as well as having theory and methodology classes. Its like work really, im up at 7 and have to commute for 40 minutes into the city..and then i have to plan stuff for the next day when i get home..fortunately its only for a month.. The people on the course are a good bunch, all aussies except for a english guy who has been here for 30 years. There is a chinese guy too who speaks way too fast, god knows how the students understand him..went out for beers after college yesterday and had a rather interesting evening..i got pissed in the city, jumped on ... read more

Hi, im currently working on the pre course assignment that i need to complete before monday, so i thought id distract myself even more (already been to the shop, watched TV, visited facebook..) and give people an update on my trip. Well, its not really a trip anymore as im not going anywhere right now, not until my course finishes in mid december...after which my folks are coming out to my brothers for christmas and we will all be off on a road trip..cant say where yet as my folks are gonna be reading this and dont want to spoil the surprise... Anyway, i digress..the last couple of weeks have been fairly uneventful really. Its been nice catching up with my brother Dave and his wife Jeannie (id forgotten how much he farts, perhaps the reason ... read more

So what Melbourne Travel Blog would be complete without a trip to Ramsay Street?! I'd had a bit of a heavy night boozing session with work on Friday night (sorry Claire) and staggered in at about 3am. I have no idea where we ended up - but I have since been told I ordered dinner and drinks in a Greek restaurant and lasted 2 mins before going for a taxi home. I'm sure it was a good night. So Saturday morning was a bit of a write off but, to be fair, I think I was due a long lie as I hadn't had once since getting here. So we were thinking about what we could do for the afternoon - Ramsay Street was still needing checked off the list! Actually - I am surprised that ... read more

It has been a while since the last blog and we have been really busy settling down in Melbourne. We are now both working full time and hopefully the bank account will start to look better soon!! Trying to remember everything that we have done is going to be a challenge, but hey, here goes…… As the weather has picked up we decided to make the walk from our flat into the city centre. Some of the photos on this blog were taken on this trip as we walked along the south side of the river by the botanical gardens into the city. We decided to visit the immigration museum in the city centre. It was an excellent tour containing lots of personal immigration stories. Most though were a long time ago and we felt that ... read more

That's when good Neighbours become good friends.... Well for those of you prehistoric people who don't have bebo/did not receive an amazing picture text, I fulfilled one of my life long ambitions on Monday night...I went to a Neighbours party and met the stars!!!! It was amazing! I have watched Neighbours since the age of 3 and everyone knows how much I love the doc! Oh yes, Karl aka 'The Fletch' was there on top form belting out 'I Predict a Riot' and looking mighty fine! He he! I could barely contain the excitement when I met him! Also met Connor, Libby, Janelle, and wait for it ....MADGE!!! What a legend! She's not dead after all. This was all a bit too much for such a die hard fan and I launched myself into a ... read more

Hi all, it's us again, we promise this wont be long, but thought we should update you on our whole 2 days in Melbourne! After a change of plan we ended up staying in the Radisson Hotel (Thanks Dad (Brian)) which was very nice... & Yeah! we had our own TV again. We are now hooked on the Australian Big Brother, it's such a shame we have to leave for Fiji tonight, how depressing! hee hee The main thing to do in Melbourne, well top of the priority list - was too go and take a walk down Ramsay Street! For all those who don't know what were going on about - this is where they film Neighbour's (But we know you are all secret fan's anyway).... The afternoon was really good & it was ... read more

Today we went on the neighbours tour! We were so excited as we met our tour bus. Our first stop was Erinsborough high and on the way we watched an old episode on the bus TV. It was Scott and Charlene's wedding. It was funny to see such a golden oldy and watching all the characters who have gone on to other things now- especially seeing a young Kylie Minogue! (Who I'm sure has definitely had some work done since!!) So anyway, our first stop was Erinsborough High. It is actually a real school although it isn't called Erinsborough High!! Our tour leader put the school sign prop up and we had a photo. We then carried on to Ramsay Street. The real street name is Pin Oak Court. The first thing we noticed is ... read more

It was a wet morning but that didn't dampen my spirits as I was about to embark on my tour of Ramsey Street and Erinsborough! The tour was admittedly a little expensive for what it was but then you were able to relive some "classic" Neighbours moments, get all the gossip on what's coming up on the show (I would share with you but I'm sure I'd get a fair number of moans from you Neighbours fans out there!) and of course meet one of the stars... Hope you enjoy the pics!... read more

(Should point out, I'm not technically in Ramsay St, but this is the dream...) Faye and I woke up at 4:15 this morning to crawl out of bed (we had been sleeping on couches for the two previous nights, so it was nice to be in a bed!) and gather our bags before taking a bus and two trains to reach the airport. All went smoothly though, and we arrived safely at Melbourne airport where Geoff (of Geoff and Carmen, Faye's family friends) met us and brought us back to his home just outside Melbourne. It's a lovely house, and Faye and I are really looking forward to having a base here for the next 6 days. In Sydney we stayed in two hostels to begin with - 'base' Backpackers and Sydney Backpackers, both of which ... read more

We're back in Melbourne for a couple of nights. Just enough time to do two things. First to go back to Fitzroy, Melbourne's answer to Soho, full of cafés and independent shops. We find it impossible not to pay a visit to a fantastic little place on Brunswick Street, the Chocolatería San Churro, which does plates of delicious fresh Spanish churros served hot with a big bowl of melted chocolate. Heaven ! Well, we need something to fuel all our walking... The second is something so natural, so obvious for any visitor to Melbourne that I hardly need to even say what it is. Which of Melbourne's cultural sights is so magnetic that it would be anathema not to visit it ? Which attraction draws all but the most philistine of visitors ? Of course, it's ... read more
