Well, this is more for my parents than anyone because I know they really wish they could be here today, but here is the part 1 update of the birthday! Well, at exactly midnight, I rang in my birthday with Ayako, Berrak and Theresa. I took my first drink as a legal American. Then, from there we spent the rest of the night dancing around the apartment and playing this little game where you had to try and flip the cap into the cup...kinda fun! Then, Dacil, my 3rd roommate arrived home and they decided to give me my gifts! They were so nice and generous to me- I'm still in shock about it! They gave me a giant bag of gummy babies (kinda like giant gummy bears), a heart necklace, a stuffed koala and echinda, ... read more

Birthday Fever has started! Yesterday I received my birthday package from my parents...which I was so excited to receive with so many little goodies inside- most of all peanut/peanut butter filled goodies! I also received an adorable little stuffed Bengals bear which now sits proudly upon my bed. I'm hoping for a birthday victory....especially after last weekend's embarassing loss to the Browns (I bet you're happy, Tera!). I also recieved my map of Australia which I had forgotten to pack in my suitcase- whoops! and it is now proudly hanging next to my bed, looking fabulous! As I unfolded it, I found one of the green notes Dr. B put on there, "Picture This! Australia: Fall '07"...I'm not picturing it...I'm living it! Last night was a very relaxed day around the apartment. I spent the day ... read more

Well, it's been a few days since I've been back from my trip and I really haven't done much of anything. On Monday, I spent time sending emails to friends and sending out my weekly update. I also did the weekly grocery shopping, did some laundry and began working on my presentation for Wednesday. Today, Tuesday, I met with my group this morning to cover material for our presentation and then came back to the apartment to watch Oprah and Days of Our Lives. Tomorrow will be spent wrapping up the presentation, meeting with Tonya from Student Services and then going to class and giving our presentation. Nothing too exciting going on for this week as most people are just off on their holiday or are just taking it easy around campus the same way I ... read more

I have decided the past few days that I have seen the bluest skies I've ever seen in my life. That's all I have to say today...they don't have a start and don't have an end. Another gift placed in front of my eyes. These are the views out of my window this afternoon.... read more

During this entire adventure, I have been keen on finding the similarities and differences between America and Australia. Well, I can say that boredom in America and boredom in Australia are exactly the same!!! It gets old after about 5 hours! I have spent the last 4 days the following ways- Monday was spent at the clinic and the ER, Tuesday was spent on my couch icing my foot and watching TV, Wednesday was spent in class and working on homework and today has been the exact same as yesterday. I am finally down to one crutch and am going to attempt to go without crutches completely tomorrow. I still cannot put full pressure on my foot, but we'll see how it goes. If it hurts too much, I'll go back to one crutch! You can ... read more

Well, it's just been another weekend here in Oz. I can't believe it's Sunday again already...I wonder sometimes where in the world my week goes. Well, Friday night I stayed in and watched a really good murder mystery movie on the TV...I know, lame...but it was so good that I couldn't force myself to get off the couch and go out anywhere. Saturday morning I woke up and headed down into the city. Yesterday, I officially became a tourist for a few reasons. Reason #1: It was 20 degrees here yesterday and for those of you that don't know...THAT'S WARM! It was only 12 or 13 when I first got here, so 20 is so warm! So, I of course was out in my shorts, tshirt and flip flops. Well, the locals are still wearing jeans ... read more

Well, folks, we are just a few days away from Spring here in good old Melbourne, but I have to say that today could not have felt better! I went down to the Market to get my shopping for the next week done and I went in shorts, a t-shirt and the classic adidas sandals!!!! (You didn't really think I'd leave home without them, did you?) I have to say that it put me in quite a good mood! This is the weather I dreamed of...sunshine, sandals and shorts! The only downside to this lovely new shorts season is the new scars I'll be sporting this time around. As some of you know, I fell down the stairs a few day before heading abroad as my knee gave out on my way downstairs at my parent's ... read more

Well, I can't believe that my "school week" is already over with...I have no idea where the past 3 days went!!! I guess that's because, as my mom says, I'm like a college freshman all over again. My behavior this week has been very similar to that of a typical college freshman- the one who goes out partying during the school week and stays up to odd hours. I am quite proud to say that I still got all my school work done and did not skip a single lecture or tutorial. However, I did do my fair share of "partying" this week. Tuesday night, we went to a night club called Casey's where they have this cool deal on Tuesday nights called "Toss the Boss". Basically, you guess heads or tails and depending on whether ... read more

Today was a REALLY sunny day here and it actually felt WARM for the first time since I've been here- how amazing is that?! So, I of course spent some time outside basking in the sun and enjoying the beautiful day. Other than that, I just spent some time in class and time doing homework. I was going to go a club tonight but I couldn't sleep last night (thinking too much about that book- haha) and I have a lot of homework to get done, so I decided to just stay in! 2 more days of class and then it's the weekend....WOO HOO!... read more

That's pretty much what my life has consisted of this week- school and homework. My classes are relatively boring, but have sparked some interest thus far. The reading here is beyond ridiculous for each of the classes, but I had heard that from many people during orientation. I am trying my hardest to stay ahead of it and not fall behind, but we'll see how that goes. I continue to be amazed by how large my classes are (my lecture today had about 250-300 people in it) and how large the buildings are here. My favorite part, though, is that each of the classroom buildings have escalators that take you to each of the floors- it's kind of crazy...riding 7 escalators to get my classroom. It's definitely a lot better than walking all those stairs at ... read more
