Not long now. And it still seems so abstract. So distant. I booked my flight to India nearly six months ago. Extended my stay a month or so later. Decided to extend it indefinately about five weeks ago now. It has been difficult, and not less by the rather impulsive and irrational nature of the listed decisions. But it is the right thing to do. I think. I am oscillating somewhere between the years of 29 and 30 - This seems to be a lucrative age for philosophers and artists who attempt to say something about the human condition. As though several streams of existential anxiety and insight may intersect at this stage of embodied and psychic development, destabilising and disrupting the subject as it has existed until this point. Sartre's Nausea charts the impossible anxieties ... read more

Hi folks, we are now back in Lalor, near Melbourne. We arrived back on Wednesday and have enjoyed a few days rest from travelling. Today we are visiting Janice, our niece, who hasd let me use her computer, hence this message. We have downloaded some of my pictures onto disc and I am going to attempt tp put spmw on this blog. The Kalgoorlie gold mine was amazing, an open cast mine that visitors could look down on. The big lorries looked like little Dinky toys. We visited Burra copper mine, which was veryinteresting even though it was no longer in use. We also visited an iron ore mine which is still in use at Broken Hill. A memorial to past workers who had lost their lives was interesting recording names, ages and cause of death ... read more

As before with the Hinkleys travel diary, the idea of planning ahead and packing early never happens. Both Pete and I have very full days planned for tomorrow and then only one more sleep before we head off. Bags still not packed and Hannah and Tully feeling the stressed knowing that their survival for the next 20 days depend on Lee. They both lament that they dont have thumbs so they can open those damm cans by themselves. I will use this first blog to test my skills in transfering photos from my camera. I need the practice and I dont have Lee to push the right buttons this time....so wish me luck. I will try and do this regularly, definately from London where we expect Nicole and Dean to meet us at the airport. ... read more

Hi Visitors Typically Hinkleys leaving everything to the last minute. The good news is I have set up this travel page with the help of Lee, just before he sets off to USA. As for Pete and Shirl, well we dont leave until Wednesday and then we fly the opposite way. First stop Dubai......plenty of shopping!! If you would like to check my photos, I have added our poorly timed family accident. The good news is Hannah is out of plaster now and a lot more comfortable. The $6,000 xray is here to remind me what I would have been spending in Paris. I guess Hannahs joy of chasing a ball makes it worth it....I think. As for Tully, well she has settled in, and as you can see, she will miss us....if not us, surely ... read more

After we finally got Chris away from the pole, we settled in for a short night's sleep in Airlie Beach, the launching point for most trips to the Whitsundays, a group of 90 or so islands that feature calm waters and beautiful scenery. The sailing trips are affordable, and many visitors Down Under consider them to be the highlight of the trip - we would tend to agree. We headed out on the Maxi Ragamuffin , a former racing boat modified for touring. Skippered by a former sailing professional who also holds a Ph.D. in Math, it allowed us to travel some of the way purely under sail power. After a couple of hours, we docked at Blue Pearl Bay, where we spent some time snorkelling at a reef off the shore of one of the ... read more

Flight felt like it was never ending to be honest, first flight with BA was ok got quite a bit of leg room but because i had the isle seat some and near the where the stewardesses are she kept banging in to me!!! grrr and ended up breaking my screen which i was watching movies on. PRETTY COOL of her. Then as soon as we got off the plane we were escorted to the check in desk and straight to our gate for our next flight which was handy otherwise we probably wouldnt have made the flight. Second flight was good Quantas much better airline in my opinion. Giles got split up from me and harry on the second flight becasue the seat plan ... read more
