The weather was warm over the weekend in Byron Bay but also quite wet! The first day was warm but the sun had set by 5:30pm, which was a shock! It was quiet as it wasn't peak season, which was nice :) but we soon discovered that it was the winter rain that put most tourists off! We did the walk to the lighthouse at cape Byron and got caught in a torrential downpour! We did however, manage to see a beautiful rainbow over the sea at the most Easterly point in Australia! One day we stayed on the beach to watch the sunset over the bay and saw a school of dolphins swimming around the wreck of an old boat. It was very special! We finished the night off with delicious fish and chips on ... read more

I've been pretty busy the last few weeks trying to work and save up some money but instead I've been seeing the sights of Melbourne with my friends! My english friend Hattie (who has lived here in Aus for the last eleven years) works with me at Bread and Butter and we have somehow managed to have the same days of for several weeks! Hattie is heading back to the UK next week and I'm really going to miss her :( Our day off usually ends up being a Thursday and so we decided to make the most of the time we had and go see some sights around the city (Hence the name Thurs-day of fun!). We took a trip to the Eureka tower in the CBD and took the lift to the 88th floor ... read more

It's been a pretty boring month in terms of travel, just working lots! I managed to get a kushy deal house-sitting for a lovely family! They had foxtel (like sky), internet and a pool! It was so nice to have a tv and sofa again!!! I worked all through Easter :( but it kept me busy so I wasn't too home sick - even when the Easter bunny didn't make it to my house on time! (Must have been on GMT because later in the afternoon I got a surprise lindt egg!) The weather has started changing as we move from Autumn to Winter. It's around 10 degrees at the coolest which isn't bad at all, especially considering today it was three degrees cooler in England even though it's Spring time! We did have awful rain ... read more

Officially in our new place- it's very small and its definitely taking some getting used to! Matty and I are mostly enjoying to living together in such a small space and I’m learning to deal with the dirty clothes on the floor and the smell of cooking in the bedroom!! The neighbours are great though- very sociable and invite us out regularly! Its been pretty non eventful the last few weeks, I’ve been looking after my kiddies a few nights every week and they are getting used to having me around- which is nice! And I have been working at the cafe to save up some money for our trip to Sydney at the end of the month! I'm looking forward to catching up with Sal! A friend of a friend Becky came to stay from ... read more

I managed to find the lindt shop in Melbourne CBD, where I had a cookie and cream thickshake with chocolate brownie pieces on top and a little cafe that sells ice cream with hot chocolate poured on top- bizarre but very delicious! After several more chocolate encounters, I decided it was time to to take a break from the highly addictive chocolat! Instead I discovered the chai latte- a frothy milk drink with spicy cinnamon and vanilla (and lots of sugar so not much better!) Matthew and I took a tour of the city on the free city loop tram and saw the old gaol, parliament, some pretty churches and beautiful gadens with fountains. We ended up in north Melbourne, which is quite funky with more pub style bars for young student types. It was a ... read more

We decided to take a spontaneous trip down to Portsea surf beach with Sal as a friend had lent us a car. It was a bit cloudy on the way down but ended up being nice and hot! The water was freezing but I jumped in for a swim, only to be wiped by a kid on a body board!!! I must have collected half the sand on the beach as when I got home and showered I found it all in the bath!!! New Year was much better than I expected! We managed to book a table at Il Pomodoro, an Italian restaurant on Federation Square! They gave us the table for the whole night but we only stayed until about half 9. We watched the show in the square, which was great especially as ... read more

This is the address: http://www.sportisglobal.blogspot.com/ I'll still be blogging here - more on that at a later date - but please please please have a look at the new site and tell me what you think. Rather than send you from link to link though, here's the first entry: Permanent header: Sport, for sport's sake, is the purest form of competition, answering a basic human instinct for superiority. It's war without death; evolution without science; reality television without self obsessed idiots spouting turgid banality and soulless filth. When nations go head to head, peaceful pride takes centre stage, planet earth gets smaller and every flag can fly. It happens everywhere, every day, a never ending Olympiad of infinite disciplines. Every Thursday I want to give you a hand. I make it my business to know what's ... read more

Greetings, from another house sit with another dog. I could get used to this! Here comes some more, to quote a dear friend, 'self indulgent' musings on work and what it means. I'm reading Alain de Botton's book on the subject and would certainly recommend it: mostly there are nice descriptions of unusual things; occasionally there are startlingly lucid paragraphs encapsulating the torment of responsibility. I hope you get to the end because there's a TREAT of a link waiting for you there. First up though, a link that you've no excuse for missing - a wonderful lady doing a frightful thing for an excellent cause: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/SkydivingWithGregInMind On we go then: I arrived in Australia, fresh from the only job that I hadn’t left due to lethargy/misdemeanour/ misguided belief in alternative career potential. Here’s the rub ... read more
