With only having a short time in Austrialia I thought I should cram as much as possible. Organised a trip along the Great Ocean Road and a wildlife trip to see the Phillip Island penguins. The Great Ocean Road trip turned out to be a geographers/geologists/photographers dream. We got to see wild kangaroos that have made their home on a private golf course, as well as a wild Koalas. The main part of the trip was to see the amazing coastal scenery that Victoria is famous for. Victoria as in the state in Austrialia - not me! The following day the trip consisted of visitng a wildlife sanctuary which involved getting up close and personal with orphaned wombats, kangaroos, koalas and not so personal with dingos Phillip Island was the next stop to see tiny timid ... read more

just after the necesarry amount of trouble with our car, we drove the nullarbor plane all the way south, passed the ocean road along the way and did some surfing there, off course with the great views, didn't see the great white though.... finally we ended up in melbourne where we splitted up! sometime one need to travel alone, or there are other things to worrie about like the stuff you need to buy things as food etc... working in melbourne should lighten up my pressure to borrow money.... with my nice own appartment and a easy going van for driving around furniture and stuff like that which i shared with my old class mate from holland by the way, its a small world after all! being a kitchen hand is the other possibility for earning ... read more

Home of the Twelve Apostles. I guess I was lucky enough to have seen them before one of the apostles vanished! The road to the Twelve Apostles itself is filled with amazing scenery and interesting towns like Torquay, Lorne, Apollo Bay. Bells Beach near Torquay is a venue for the World Surfing Championship. Great Ocean Road stretches for about 250km. It was freezing when Fidelia, Pris & I went on a day trip. Situated in the Port Campbell National Park, the Twelve Apostles are limestone rocks, some as high as 45 metres. The view takes your breath away. I was there again in 2001 with some of KC's friends. There are other features we went, which was 'London Bridge' and 'Loch Ard Gorge' where we could stand at the top of the cliff for a spectacular ... read more

I finished work at the State Bank a few days before I was planning on leaving Melbourne for a tour round Australia. Everyone there was really good to me and had a collection with which they bought me a tee shirt. We then all went out in the evening to 'Le Pub' and then afterwards to a club called 'The Underground', for which we had free tickets of course. Before I left Melbourne, I went on a two-day tour to the Great Ocean Road where there is some pretty spectacular coastal scenery. This was a real backpacker's tour in a mini-bus with no set itinerary. We worked our way along the Great Ocean Road, stopping wherever the main sights were or wherever it took our fancy. The weather was awful, but that made it all that ... read more
