Some of the remaining members went out to Bartley’s Block again this morning, we were trying to see a Turquoise Parrot for Charlotte, one turned up after smoko but Charlotte missed seeing it! We all eventual go to the parking spot, someone suggested I lead the convoy out; it might have helped if I had looked at a map to remind me which road to take out to Bartley’s! Annie and I both agreed that I NEVER lead another outing EVER. It was a very casual morning with people just ambling about catching up with birds they missed the first time. I wanted a photo of the White-throated Gerygone nest, you can see the results on this blog and the little bird never turned up to the nest. Then I wanted a pic of the ... read more

There was no Hume Freeway noise last night!! Rhonda said the 'truckies' were properly between loads and stopped. Then we head there was a nasty derailment too that stopped the freight trains running, it is the truck and car noise that keeps/kept me awake, trains is normal like at home during the summer with grain trains to Portland. Second day of HAMBOCA Chiltern camp dawned a beautiful day with a non-dedicated birders start to the day. The Chilterns market day was on so Sue had arranged a 10am start for members who needed to visit the local produce stalls (and some junk ones too). I went for the lazy start to the day! I jumped in with Maryann again and stayed in the middle of the convoy so there was no getting miss placed. Even when ... read more

This was the first (official) day of the HAMBOCA Chiltern camp outing; we meet outside my cabin at 8.30am all up and ready to go even though it was over cast and a little drizzlerly, but it was quite mild and there was no wind. Sue and I muttered that this was typical beautiful day the day before get everyone here and it’s a bit damp. But a little inclement weather never holds a dedicated (deranged!) birder back. The fourteen members and two guests set of to Bartley’s Paddock our first stop for the day, well Sue tried to the lead group but missed the turn, so when Jane, AM and I got there, there was no one to be seen! But we waited for them. A light drizzle fell most of the morning at Bartley’s ... read more

A nice Easy Day Not up at ‘sparrow fart’ but still got cabin spick and span, ate breaky, made morning tea and had time to chat with Carmen my cabin neighbour and fellow bird watcher (she says parrot watcher, she’s into flamboyant colours!) She and her partner are over from Switzerland (again) casing down with camera and video all our lovely parrots. Left at about 10.15am to look for a good smoko stop in the Warby Ranges, after passing through the vineyard area, over the Taminick Gap and around on to Warby Range Rd I found the turn up to Granite Quarry walk. Well the drive up was a bit challenging for me and the Camry! All the rain from early spring left a big puddle at the start of the track and then there were ... read more

Finally fell asleep somewhere around 11.30pm, the Hume Freeway noise travels across to Caravan Park very clearly, resolved to buy a pair of ear plugs today. Had a nice slow morning eating breaky, drinking a coffee on the veranda till about 9am when Sue and Neville drive into the park. They arrange to go out birding with me after they have set up camp and done some washing. This leaves me time to walk into town for my ear plugs, buy the Age (green guide day) and say hello to the local cat. The Masons and I went out to the Chiltern Valley to visit the 2 dams that are include in the Chiltern Mt Pilot NP, this park is very higgledy piggledy in its shape and having bits and pieces here and there. Both ... read more

Much better sleep with ear plugs in! The Hume Freeway was reduced to a dull rumble. Took them out at dawn, then the local council had a man on a mower and whipper snipper start up at 8.30am tiding up the green space near (beside in front etc) the caravan park. Another lazy start to the day, Sue drop by at 9ish to say they were off to Honeyeater Dam for the morning, then Irene drop in to say they were off to Albury. I knew I had two days of blog to catch up with (see pervious entries!) so I decide to spend the morning on a walk and then the arvo back at the cabin doing my homework! Taun Track in the north section of the Chiltern NP sounded good from the pamphlet I ... read more
