As sorry as we were to have to leave Torquay, that sorrow was cured by another morning tea stopover at the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie. Suitably nourished, we continued driving to Aireys Inlet for our next stay. After setting up, we walked 4.4 kms along the Great Ocean Road Walk to Split Point Lighthouse and return to the Caravan Park. The cliffs along this coast are just as stunning as those around Bells Beach. Many of the houses in Aireys Inlet were destroyed in the 1983 Ash Wednesday bushfires, however, many have now been rebuilt, and it is a highly sought after location to either live or have a holiday house. First stop on day five was Point Addis a marine national park and home to Addiscot Beach. One could see the typical coastal views from the point including a nice view of he beach. After a short beach exploration, I completed the Koori Cultural Trail. Although only two km, it was largely uphill and given the temperature of 35 C, was not easy going. A nice view of Addiscot beach from a lookout at the end of the trail. As I was leaving the area I happened to note on a map Point Roadknight. Hmmmmmmmmmmm? I had to check it out. A non-descript beach but some amazing volcanic rock structures at the point. Love these unscheduled stops that are worth the effort. Geo: -38.4594, 144.107This morning we finished packing a few last things into my car and then we were off! Paul and I were going on a road trip to the Great Ocean Rd and the Grampians National Park. We stopped at a local supermarket for some food, although we did take quite a bit from mum's kitchen cupboards. Our next stop would be Geelong. The drive to Geelong was pretty good as there was only a little bit of traffic on our way into Melbourne and then once we were over the West Gate Bridge it was a clear run. Here in Geelong we stopped to exchange some currency we had brought over from South Africa and to stretch our legs. We didn't stop for too long because we wanted to get to our destination.
