leaving Bicheno we head for Deloraine a small town inland from Launceston our campsite is next to a river frequented by Platypus and ducks and hopefully some fish.Being central we hope to use this place as a base to explore more of Tassy. Our first day out was to a nature reserve which is home to Liffy Falls, not as spectacular as some we have seen but still very pretty. The walk in was like walking through an enchanted garden with beautiful ferns and trees of all colours and sizes.The countryside around here is given over to grazing land with sheep and cattle dotted all around.In the distance towering cliffs of the mountains can be seen often with mist covering the summit giving way to a beautiful backdrop as we drive around these isolated villages stopping ... read more
Walking into Liffey falls

Tasmania Sheffield to Deloraine. 33 miles and 700 m of climbing. After a pleasant stay at the Sheffield Motor Inn we sped along Paradise Road until we hit a severe incline around Mount Roland, although it felt like we were going straight up it. As we passed through the trees on the hill of the Gog Forest we were surrounded by screeching White Cockatoos. An amazing descent followed to cross the River Mersey at the foot of the hill. Half way down I came across a French couple grinding their way up, who were spending two months cycling around Tasmania with all the camping gear. The going was nice and easy along the Meander Valley to Deloraine, where we first stopped at Mole Creek for some banana bread and coffee at the very pleasant Bozzey Cafe. ... read more
