Leaving Rawnsley Park early-ish we headed north the short distance - a mere 35km to Wilpena Pound Resort Caravan Park. This is such a picturesque location with the sites embedded amongst the trees and wild life on the doorstep. The nearby mountains are not immediately obvious but are definitely there. Something to explore later.

As we set up the van we discovered we had left our brass tap connector on the tap back at Rawnsley Park. Bummer! So Greg hopped in the 4x4 and scurried back there to retrieve it, with the added justification he would fill the tank with fuel as it was significantly cheaper at Rawnsley. He was greeted at our old site by another guest asking if he’d come back for his tap connector. He was told Bruce had taken it with him knowing he would find us at Wilpena. This is the advantage of connecting with your short term neighbours and knowing where they are heading next. We had been camped between 2 Bruces. Easy to remember their names but damned if either of us could remember their partner’s names.

Greg returned with both fuel and tap connector. Phew! Although we did have a second one just in case as we know this happens regularly to vanners.

Over coffee we were entertained by a mother kangaroo, her pouch heavily burdened with a joey, its legs and head visible at times. An amorous male hovered nearby. Grey fearless birds cleaned our door mat, picking pebbles from it, chattering gutturally.

With good Telstra coverage Greg was reminded it was Friday as his mates emailed about Friday lunch. Why not? Just not with them. The nearby Poddy Dodgers Bistro offered a tempting menu and a scenic outlook so we opted for tasty spicy Cajun burgers with chips of course, washed down with a Pikes Riesling.

Next up was a short drive with a rocky 3km walk to Arkaroo rock where we viewed aboriginal rock art. Along this trail lots of flowering bushes and shrubs made it a natural botanic garden.

Back at camp scotch fillet with our favourite dry Texas rub was perfectly BBQed by Greg. A quick adaptation to the accompanying cannellini beans dish was necessary when we failed to find the, ‘but I did pack it,’ horseradish cream. A Knappstein Enterprise Cab Sav on the side. It’s such a tough life on the road.
