An absolutely magic morning as we drove toward the South Australian border. Anticipating an inspection of the van at the Quarantine Checkpoint we were most surprised to see it all closed up, so we just sailed on through to Pinaroo.

While John refuelled I went for a little stroll across the carpark to find a beautiful parkland/wetland area – an ideal spot for our morning tea, plus we were able to top up our water tanks from the rainwater tank adjacent to the shelter. Perfect!

We had read an RACV article that Sth Aus roads are in much better condition than our Victorian ones; however we had serious doubts as we left Pinaroo on the Paruna Road because we shook, rattled and lurched for quite a few kms before hitting some smooth tarmac. Needless to say “Beware opening overhead lockers” came to mind when we stopped in Loxton.

We did a quick bit of shopping in Loxton and then enjoyed our picnic lunch in a park with the lushest grass we have seen in a long time. Loxton appears to be quite an affluent town – its main shopping area was busy and most shops occupied.

Driving the last 28kms to the small locality of Moorook, we set up our campsite at the Recreation Reserve right by the Murray River. There are a few others vans, but space is aplenty so we are not on each other’s doorstep. We feel the $10.50 per night fee for free camping – no power or water – is a bit steep, but it is an attractive, peaceful place so money into the honesty box……..

The day has been stunning, not a cloud in the sky but it is going to be another very cold night (down to -2oC) so hopefully the heating works well. Might need my bed socks!
