Leaving Adelaide the real road trip begins......................................................... Today I saw soooo many more interesting things- we were in the real outback!! For starters the weather was amazing- desert like......its amzing how the weather can be so different...................... Experienced real Australian colours- burnt oranges............desert land with sparce greenery- great photo opportunities which of course I took full advantage of as always! People's houses were in the absolute middle of no where!!!! Miles apart from their neighbours!!! How do they get food or milk for their brews- they must not see others for days or leave the house for days!!!!!!! I just find it crazy!!! I would pull my hair out!!! Poor Sylvia would be well used!!!!!! The roads were same same the whole way with little highlights thrown in there every now and again!!! A ... read more

It took us two and a half days to cross the plain and we really enjoyed it, which cam as surprise as most folk we talked to said it was a boring drive, but I suppose we are less used to that kind of scenery and get more out of it. As you can see it was really quite green which was a surprise beacuse of all the heavy rain and storms that southern Australia had had in January so it was looking kinda lush! Here some pics I took as we drove along:... read more

I arrived at the offices of Wayward Tours in Adelaide as a veteran. Having spent a whole 14 hours in South Australia's state capital it was time to acquaint myself with my latest group of 'rent-a-friends' and hit the road in the direction of the country's Red Centre. Some 8 hours previously, I'd been saying goodbye to the Great Ocean Road gang and truth be told I longed for their company as I couldn't be arsed with the rigmarole of having to go through the motions with this latest bunch of companions. Thankfully, however, that lazy attitude was soon quashed: I'm not sure if the phrase 'sausage-fest' has an opposite but there was a helluva lot more burds than lads and if for this shallow reason only, I headed north like one excited wee puppy. I ... read more

I am my own *smile* Rearing to go, yet somewhat complacent about the whole shebang this morning... overwhelmed probably, as you get. Pussy cat not around to give one last toodeloo... No matter how much you pack there’s always something you forget... no matter how prepared you think you are there's alwyas something not considered or left behind. *sigh* my faavourite jumper just for starters... Hooning along up the freeway - at 40km per hour… is something wrong? Is this what I’m in for?! *phew*, just the hill, my concerns soon cleared... i'm going to melbourne!! *sigh* no music for 12 hour drive ahead, at least… ok... sure, I can get used to the sounds of nature :) and hey it’s a good opportunity to appreciate my surroundings instead of blocking them out through distraction. Saturday started with another amazing sunrise over cloudy sky in Williams Creek. Today we drove less than 200 km (but still on dirt roads) to the miners town Coober Pedy. I had big expectations from this visit - I heard it’s an underground town, built underground because of the very high temperatures in summer. So there are underground house (in fact the name means in Aboriginal “white man burrow”…), but there’s a lot of ugliness above ground. It looks like a Bedouin town in the Negev - all dusty, no sidewalks, no green. But we did have a good pizza for lunch and a good Greek dinner (many immigrants came there dreaming to become reach in the Opal mines), so how can I complain? And we slept in our own burrow - underground hostel! The highlight ... read more

On Wednesday I started my big outback adventure - 8 days in the Australian desert with Wayward bus and the guide-driver crazy Glen. In the morning the group met and we started doing wine tasting in Clare Valley - not really outback, just a good way to start breaking the ice. Getting alcohol was a major motive in the trip also afterwards - with an Aussie guide, 5 English, 5 Irish and other beer-drinking people, it was always fun in the bus. In the first day we drove 500 km to the Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges. That night I built my first tent in my life, and surprisingly it still stood up in the morning! Thursday morning started with a hike to Mount Ohlssen Bagge to have great views over Wilpena pound, that is ... read more

Hi there all the new people that have been added to our Travelblog list, and sorry to those that I have been practising on over the last few months!! Well the count down is on I guess as we both finish work Friday 15th April and fly out of Roxby on the morning of the 20th April. First hit and run stop will be Singapore on our way to Japan where we will spend a few days near Osaka and then Tokoyo. From there its off to the UK, Europe, USA and Canada, but more about that as we travel. Joshua and Kaleb have promised to do several things for us while we are away, so I guess this will be a big test for them to. Feed the dogs, birds and fish. Pay the bills ... read more

What a wild weekend we had. The IIclipsal automobile race, which is similar to the Indy 500, was taking place just near our flat. I knew the streets would be crowded but I didn’t expect the people to get so out of hand. For the sake of decency I will not share all of our weekend events and the behaviors of intoxicated Aussies but I will say that I have never seen such delinquency. A tame example includes Friday night. The three of us (Amber, Kameron and myself) were sitting in our lounge (living area) having a conversation when Amber shouts “Oh my God!” with a stricken face. I look across to our balcony and a man is standing outside our wide open screen door staring in at us. This happened at 8 p.m. on the ... read more
