Up at 4:30AM to catch the ferry which runs from Wallaroo to Lucky Bay Cowell on the eastern coast of the Eyre Peninsula, South Australia. The Eyre Peninsula was named after Edward John Eyre (1815-1901) who with his aboriginal friend, Wylie, was the first to cross Australia from east to west. Leaving Lucky Bay I drive inland reaching Cleve. What is there to say about Cleve, that is has a park with painted farm machinery, a dunny not initially recognized as a dunny and murals depicting pioneer history. But the mural that caught my attention was was the one that appeared to be painted in the same style as the creations of May Gibbs. May Gibbs (1877- 1969) , perhaps an Australian version of Beatrice Potter, created the Gumnut Babies, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. Born in England, ... read more

It certainly did not take very long for us to get used to travelling again, but once again I have been very slack with this blog and it’s updates, so here goes. The time we spent in Kakadu was amazing due mostly to the un-seasonal rain that was received in April and May. Needless to say there was water in every Billabong and water hole we went to see and water still flowing over falls that are usually dry by this time of year. The rock art at Ubirr is very interesting and well worth a visit when you are in these parts. We hung around out there for a magnificent sunset over the floodplain that is thriving with bird life thanks to the abundance of water. Hi everyone, Well here we are on the Eyre Peninsula at last. Have heard so much about this part of SA and it has been pretty good. After leaving the Barossa, we drove straight to a little place called Melrose in the foothills of the Flinders Ranges. The caravan park was delighful and right at the base of Mt Remarkable. Didn't do the climb because of time constraints - thats my excuse anyway. Rob had recommended we stay here and it was no further than following the beaten track and going to Port Pirie. Had a family of wallabies visit us as we were having sunset drinks. They were so tame the male walked straight between me and the table and even trod on my foot in his effort to find something yummee to eat. Next ... read more
