Day 1 - 21/2/2015

Departed home at 2.35am. Arrived in Apollo Bay at 6.45am & had a fantastic breakfast at the Apollo Bay Bakery. Sourdough roll with bacon & egg (huge) & cooked to perfection. A pot of tea for 2 cost $5 which gave us 6 decent size cups (less than $1 a cup!) which was exceptional value & all delivered to your table with a smile.

Next it was off to the 12 Apostles & Loch Ard Gorge near Pt Campbell for several photos & just taking in the magnificent scenery before going back on our merry way.

Some of the Great Ocean Road was patchy, but for the most part an exceptional drive. Lots of impatient drivers overtaking in risky sections despite getting over at every opportunity.

Warrnambool was our first fuel stop: 412km 54.51L @ $1.13.5/L Avg 13.1L per 100km

We then went on to Pt Fairy where we had our healthy salad rolls for lunch under the shade of a huge tree. Back on our way saw the temperature start to soar. Near Mt Gambier it hit 41C which was quite stifling. We took our time taking regular stops for cold drinks out of the camping fridge to stay hydrated.

Eventually we arrived in Robe, filled up for our second fuel stop: 337km 50.37L @ $1.35.3 (highway robbery!) Avg 15.1L per 100km then onto the Discovery Caravan Park at 4.30pm. Total time on the road was 14 hours including all of our breaks. We parked the van, disconnected the car & went straight to the swimming pool. After that it was fish for dinner followed by a walk along the beach before heading back to the van to have a well earned sleep.

Total kms for the day 756.
