So the big day had arrived, Sailing around the Whitsundays for 3 nights 😊
i met my fellow passangers at the marina at miday and within 20 mins we were on board and off-a-saiing !!! There were only 5 other passangers - Ken and Liz fro Canada, Andrew and Robina from Gloucester and Connie from Denmark. We all hit it off straight away ...... much chatter and laughter ensued.
We started off with a champagne lunch ...... my I was going to enjoy this !!!
then we were shown around the boat, it was a tall ship made in 1920's lots of walnut wood everywhere and very luxurious, well if your going to do something, do it well I say !!! My bunk was in a teeny tiny room at the pointy end of the boat, and it was a triangel shaped room !!! I was bottom bunk (again triangle shaped) with Connie on top bunk. The loo's were posh but those who have sailed will know all about the handle you have to pump after each visit which makes the whole " I'm just going for a quick wee" laughable as the whole process takes about 10
minutes !!!
Anyway, off we sailed without the sails hoisted with our skipper Rob (young, cheeky, very Ozzie) in charge. We motored along for a couple of hours and it was glorious sunshine, very slight rocking but not much, I had takes one sea sick pill and was happy as Larry all day long 😊
We mored at Southern end Whitehaven beach which had perfect white sand and turquoise sea, the only problem was that after the cyclone there was debris of leaves, twigs and branches all littering the beach which would have been prestine 2 weeks before.
The beach was huge and totally deserted until 4 people started coming towards us and we all got chatting, 4 Ozzies in their 70's all fit and full of fun, they had just come off a huge private yaught that one of the men owned. It was obvious he was very very rich !!! so i asked him if he was famous and should I know who he was, he looked a tad sheepish and said no. Later on one of his friends told me he was one of the Loyds 30 !!!! I knew he had to be
someone special !!! I could smell it !!!!
As its stinger season here we all had to wear wet suits to prtect us from the potentialy lethal Box jelly fish that are around. Robina and myself decided to swim back to the boat rather than get picked up in the dingy, I was a bit of a swim i have to be honest but it was gorgious 😊 after swimming back Rob told us that there were sharks and stingrays in the water !!! but they would only be small ones and quite harmless.
Then we dried off and it was time for dinner, Kenny our cook made the most fantastic 5 star food for us- mmmmmmmmmm and there was lots of banter, chatter about each others families and lots of laughter 😊
Bed time followed at 9.45 pm !!!!! (I know - but we were all exhausted by then) so after a 10 minute wee wee i hit the bunk. . Connie and myself had about 12 inches to get undressed in - it was hysterical - and I could hear Liz laughing her head off listening to the two of us gigglling and banging into
the walls.
It was a bit of a rocking and rolling night but her no worries.
