The Whitsunday Islands 74 Islands in Paradise.... We decided to add a Section on the Islands as these along with the Great Barrier Reef are what the area is renound for. We have visited alot of the Islands and often more than once. We have stayed on Hamilton Island which is a top resort and is the island from the world wide job search "the Best Job in The World" which is the job English guy Ben Southall won. We met him whilst over at the Race week Party. We have been to Daydream Island which has a great range of activities to do including pitch and put, swimming in one of 3 pools, outdoor cinema, A pool or mantarays and sharks and some beautiful rainforest walking trails. And of course some of the most amazing fringe ... read more

Hi everyone We're here on daydream island safe and sound. We sat on the beach today and although you can't swim in the sea the pool was close by and very very large. Later on as we were reading our books two wallabies bounced right by us on the sand. They came over really close probably looking for food. The photos are really good and we'll show you back home. We're heading back to the mainland tomorrow, catch you soon, x ... read more

Taken to Brisbane airport by Murray & Angela for our VirginBlue flight to Hamilton Island. Then a 30min ride on FantaSea catamaran to Daydream Island! A self-contained resort with all the facilities you could want. Beautiful setting and layout. Our room looked straight out over water to S.Molle island. 26th Mar - "Ocean Rafting" fast RIB (450HP!) to Hill Inlet (which we climbed for the view) and Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday island. Trip itself was really exciting (due to wind and waves) and the beach was amazing - very fine, white, quartz-based sand. Soft as anything. Great lunch provided then off to a quiet bay where we could snorkel on the reef. Lots of fish around! ... read more

The big trip to the Great Barrier Reef! The day started really badly (and not just because we got up at 7) with high winds and a really choppy sea! We were even more apprehensive when told that all the staff on the boat were taking seasickness pills. We soon followed suit! It turns out that the winds were just touching 30 knots and that they cancel if they reach 33. As it turned out the 2.5 hour trip to the lagoon pontoon has nothing on crossing the English Channel. Though this is where we decided to kick our budget into touch and we each paid $399 to fly the return leg! The pontoon was cool, it had an underwater observation deck, two platforms for snorkling and best of all a water slide! In all we ... read more

Another early rise today, this time for our three island day trip. The first stop was on the 6km long Whitehaven Beach. The sand is 99% silica sand which means that the sand never gets hot! It also means that the beach is fantastically beautiful! After a small buffet lunch on the ship we were off to Hook Island. Here we had a half hour trip in a glass bottom boat over the fringe reef and a session of snorkling. I don't normally agree with feeding the fish for snorkling, however it was amazing having about a hundred fish fighting to eat all around you and banging into you! The reef was cool (pretty much what we experienced in Fiji) but we're definitely looking forward to our Great Barrier Reef trip in a couple of days. ... read more

Today we did nothing! Ah the joy! We spent all day sitting around the pool reading our books and going for the odd dip! The evening was spent watching the movie "Fools Gold" outside on the big screen. Not quite as good as Fiji due to better technology (it lost some of the charm) and poorer seating! Afterwards on our walk back to our room we marvelled at the night sky in all it's glory and more Wallabies! ... read more

Happy Birthday Mr Hart! Even though Daydream Island is only 1km long and 500m wide Charlie still managed to fit in a half hour run! We eat well again at breakfast and then watched the fish (Rays, Sharks and Barrimundi) bring fed on the living reef in the resort. We also got to handle Sea Stars and Sea Cucumber! The rest of the day was spent around the pool and at Lovers Cove. This is a fantastic little beach where we spent a couple of hours on our own chilling out. Unfortunately October to April is Stinger season which means that we can't swim without a stinger suit! In the evening on our way to dinner we stumbled upon a Wallaby foraging for his!... read more

We had a really early start today having to catch the 08:30 flight to Hamilton! The day didn't start great as our requested taxi failed to turn up, so we started the 2 km walk to the bus transfer only to get half way and stop a taxi and bypass the bus for a direct trip (that'll mean one less ice cream (for Charlie))! Daydream island couldn't be more different than Octopus, as it's a lot more commercial. Though this doesn't stop it from being the ideal place to recoup. It seems weird but after fifty odd days we're both ready for a holiday! Our room is luxurious and has two double beds, not sure what Charlie is trying to say! We spent the afternoon around the pool reading and going for the odd dip! The ... read more

Finally, a bit of luxury! With the van parked up for 4 days we took a boat to Daydream Island, one of the Whitsunday Islands. Everyone we know who has been, says how beautiful they are, and they were right! Absolutely gorgeous! Obviously, staying in a hotel meant no cooking and massive brekkies aswell - double bonus! So we spent a few days chilling by the pool and looking in rock pools (which Bella loves, but scares me to death) We also did a trip to Hamilton Island, where lots of very rich people live (we didn't hang around for long!) and on to Whitehaven Beach where wespent the afternoon on a postcard looking beach and sea - the kids thought it was great. Bella didn't want to leave because she 'just loved it' and I ... read more
