On Saturday we went out for breakfast and then dropped Sophie off at the supermarket. Whilst Sophie was doing the shopping Dad, Chris and I went to a garage and got the car battery replaced. We picked Sophie up and came back to the appartment to put the food in the fridge.
After lunch, we went out to a fishing shop and bought a beacon to beacon and a new fishing reel. On the way back we stopped off at an aquarium and reptile shop which was cool. They had lots of blue tongue skinks there and some tiny baby bearded dragons.
In the afternoon, we drove out to Manly West and went for a walk along the seafront. We then went to the park and played on the swings for a while which was brilliant fun! 😱
We had a BBQ for dinner with burgers and sausages and then had a lovely chocolate and raspberry pudding!
This morning we got up early and packed all of the fishing gear into the car. We packed a big picnic lunch and set off towards Bribie Island. We stopped off to have breakfast on the way and soon we
were at the beach. We stopped before going onto the beach to let some air out of the tyres.
We drove down the beach a little way and then Lauren was allowed to drive which was really fun! We found a perfect spot for parking up and setting up for the day until Chris looked out of his window and informed us that there was a snake sunbathing in our spot! We (very) quickly decided not to stay there and left. We have since found out that the snake was a yellow faced whip snake.
We found a new spot to park up and set up our sun shade quickly so that we weren't in the direct sun. We set up our little camp area with a floor and some chairs and then we started to get the fishing stuff ready.
Dad, Chris and Lauren all went and stood out in the sea and started fishing. We were stood there for about 45 minutes without catching a thing and then all of a sudden the rod was pulled really strongly out of Lauren's grip. She managed to regain control of the MASSIVE fish that was on the
end of her line! As she fought against the GIANT fish that was on the end of her line she was getting more and more excited...
... Anyway, after about 4 minutes of fighting with the fish, I got it onto the beach and it was only then that we realised.... ...shock, horror, it was not a fish... it was a SHARK!! Not just any shark either. It was a juvenile bull shark, which, when fully grown can be up to 11.5ft (3.4m) long and weigh up to 500lbs (230kgs). Luckily for us it was only a tiddler! Chris wrestled with the shark to hold it on the beach whilst Dad unhooked it from the line. Dad also caught a shark, a bit smaller than the one that I caught but still quite a scary sight!
We had some lunch and then started fishing again. During the afternoon Chris caught 6 Swallowtail Dart and two crabs, Dad caught 3 or 4 swallowtail darts and I caught 5 Swallowtail darts. It then got to a point where everyone else on the beach was leaving as the tide was coming in so fast and it was quickly approaching the time of high tide. We packed up all of our things and drove back down the beach. We had to cross a creek to get back to the normal roads and this became one of the most frightening experiences of our lives as it was so deep that it came over the bonnet of the car!
After having safely negotiatied the creek, we got back onto paved roads and after getting a milkshake each, we headed back to Brisbane.
We had cheese on toast and omelette for dinner and watched Border Security and The Force and now we are sat in bed with the fan going trying to keep cool!
Good night everyone!
