We got up early (at about 6:40) and had some breakfast and got ready to go to Australia Zoo for the day. Sophie packed us a picnic lunch and after dropping Dad off at work, we attempted, aided (what I really mean is hindered) by the sat nav, to find our way out of the city and onto the M1. It took about an hour to do a journey that should have taken about 15-20 minutes. In the end, we gave up using the sat nav as it should be used and ended up just using it as a map and finding our own way there.
When we got to Australia Zoo, we opted to pay $2 extra each so we could visit the wildlife hospital and look around inside. But before we went to the wildlife hospital, we went to look around some of the zoo. First we went to look at the kookaburras and tawny frogmouths which we cool as we saw some the other day in the wild! Then we went to look at the otters who were hungrily awaiting their morning feed. We have both seen otters being fed before, so while everyone was busy there,
we went to look at the lizards and komodo dragon.
On our way towards the elephant feeding, we saw a person holding a baby alligator so we went over and Chris stroked its tail and we took some photos. Then just a bit further down the path there was someone with a blue tongue skink, which we got to stroke. We carried on past the tortoises and went to see the koalas. After looking at the koalas, we went to queue up for the elephant feeding. First we fed Siam and then we got in a different line and fed Bimbo. We took some photos and also had our photos taken by the zoo people.
After the elephant feeding we went to the crocoseum and watched the show. They had cockatoos, storks, parakeets, lorikeets, snakes and crocodiles. It was really good, especially as we had really good seats! After the show, we went to look at the camels and some more crocodiles.
We then went out of the zoo and back to the car to have our lunch which was really yummy. After lunch we went to the wildlife hospital which was AMAZING! We saw a koala who was just being brought round after an operation. We also saw a duckling and looked in the operating theatre.
We then went back into the main zoo and on our way to got some kangaroo food. We went into the enclosure and fed lots of red and grey kanagroos. We saw a mummy kangaroo and her joey who we were told is 7 months old. He was very friendly and let us feed and stoke him!
We then headed down to the tiger enclosure and got there just as they were doing the tiger show which was brilliant! We saw the tigers doing jumps, standing on their hind legs just to get a bit of milk and they were right behind the glass about 2 meters or less away from us.
After the tiger show we headed back to the car. On the way back to Brisbane we stopped at the Glass house mountains scenic viewpoint. We went for a walk through the bush as saw some spiders and lizards but not much else! We then picked Dad up from work on the way back up through the valley.
We had jacket potatoes for dinner and watched a movie called Easy A which was strange but enjoyable!
