Well been in the Australian rain forest on a tour using Daintree Safari. The tour was great but honestly is this a rain forest - I do not think so - maybe we have been travelling so long that are we being de-sensitized to some amazing things due to our seeing so many wonders around the world - I think we are so ignore my previous comments.
Tour guide Nick was amazing and if you know anyone who is coming here and needs a guide Nick is your man. So picked up at 7.30am, yes I said AM! OMG we are in a chilling mode getting up this early is not on. So off in the 4x4 we go with another couple from San Francisco. We drive through a sleepy town called Mossman where on the way back we stop off to see the Mossman Gorge - more on this later. We cross the river on the Daintree River cable ferry to get to Daintree which is the home to Daintree National Park which houses the rainforest. As I said before am I being picky but walking on boardwalks in the rain forest seems a bit commercialised. Nick who was
Large lizard
Should have listened to Nick as forgot its name - no marks for me then! our guide was really good and explained a lot to us about the flora and fauna and was really eager that we saw a Cassaway which looks like a really large bird - but hey ho we never got a sighting of one. We did see a forest dragon and if Nick was not there I don't even think we would have seen that. We then jumped back in the 4x4 and went onto Cape Tribulation which we found out its name came from Captain Cook's diary which he said trials and tribulation when he got stranded here. So a bit of history for you there. We stopped here for something to eat and had this man in the restaurant give us a talk on the fruit on our plate - did we need it no - did it add anything to the meal - no.
So off we pop to Mossman Gorge and we were told we could go swimming in the gorge as it was not too hot to be honest I had already decided that I would probably miss out on this. Anyway when we get to the place you could swim it was so full
Pretty as a picture
A flower from the bird of paradise family - again did not listen regarding its real name - dunce comes to mind here! of people there was no way I would have gone in.
So yesterday we had a real quiet day and just chilled out. In the evening we went down to the beach to watch the kite surfers - I know if I lived over here that is one hobby I would definitely take up as it looks really thrilling - suppose I would need to learn to fly a kite first though. We have sent the picture and a few souvenirs home again - so more space in my bag, ha ha. Going to get my hair cut today as not had it cut since I have been away and I am looking a tad bit of a mess. Mike had his cut yesterday so he looks a tiny bit better, ha ha.
We are off on a boat cruise tomorrow where we can go snorkeling and see the great barrier reef - looking forward to this. Also looking about how to get to Mike's daughter in Brisbane - now I know how large Oz is everywhere seems to take hours and I mean hours to get to.
