Bye Bye Mareeba House Sit. The house has been lovely and very comfy, the view fantastic, the weather great and we have become very attached to the animals. Max in particular is going to miss his new friend and I’m sure she will miss him too. Peter is going to miss the endless supply of chook eggs and duck eggs and I will miss the excitement of hatching ducklings. The first duckling “Quacky” which we raised in the laundry is now a massive, healthy 9 week old boy who is happily living in the chook pen. Little does he know that there is now 10 others waiting to grow big enough to join him. So now it’s off to the Northern Territory for us! Right smack in the wet season! The owners left us with a duck sitting on nine eggs and said they would hatch any day now. So there I was checking on her every hour just to see if any had arrived. A couple of days passed and the novelty of checking had worn off when we noticed she was roaming around the yard. Panic set in as we ran down to the nest to see what was up. Then the smell hit us...A rotten egg had broken in the nest and every fly in Mareeba had come to check it out. So we did our best to pick it out of there and ended up having to hose out the nest to get rid of the stink and the flies. Thank goodness she went back to sitting on them. G’day from sunny Mareeba. Well not really sunny but a distinct lack of rain is fantastic! We travelled down here from Cooktown yesterday as the weather forecast for Cooktown was looking rubbish for the next few days. A bit of a shame as we travelled well out of our way to go there in the first place. The weather was so bad that we decided to can the camping idea & grabbed a unit instead, which turned out to be a good decision considering the wind & rain that came through. We basically had a short few hours in the afternoon to dry our gear from the few days previously & a quick swim with the kids. I asked Mum to go back to Australia for my birthday this year... so we did! My birthday was very good fun. I got some great presents. I got some Starwars lego. I really liked the Merlin disks even though they are a bit scary. I might save them up for Jadan! We now know you shouldn’t watch them late at night or they creep you! We went camping for my birthday with Rhys, Kale, Lennon and Cal. We explored the river at Davies Creek and found some really good waterfalls you could slide down. Cal got a bit creaped out by the hole the first time but he was the bravest and tried out the waterfall slides before we went down them. We had a low sugar party. Only one lolly!
