After the Whitsundays i travelled by greyhound to the Magnetic Island, where we got off at Townsville, which looked a better place than what i had been told and read. Well i got onto the ferry there anyway and set sail for the magnetic island. The journey lasted about 10 minutes and it was fine although i have heard some stories that this trip at times can get a bit rocky.
When we came into port i grabbed the island bus that takes you direct to your hostel, or wherever you want to go for that matter. I got off at the YHA hostel called bungalow bay, which is in Horseshoe bay. Here you stay in a A frame dorm, which might be a bit dingy for some but i found it quite quirky. Next door is a Koala sanctuary where you can cuddle a koala and all that sort of stuff. Anyway the first day i thought i would get my bearings of the area. I bought myself something for dinner and then headed back and layed in a hammock and read my book next to the pool. And that was pretty much my first day on mission,
not very exciting but is was so nice just to completely relax for a day and just take the world in and appreciate my surroundings.
The next day i awoke about 9 and had breakfast and then decided to spend the morning like i spent the evening the day before and read my book in the hammock next to the pool. I finally finished my book and then headed down to the beach. Which was nice enough, but due to those nasty stingers (jellyfish) you couldnt go in the sea, except for an area with a jelly fish net around it. People were swimming around in there and just as i was about to go in for a dip, i overheard an elderly couple asking the lifeguard whether it was safe to go into the sea. To which the lifeguard replied......"umm no, you can but it will be at your own risk, i would reccomend you dont! even if you wear a stinger suit in the netted swimming area ther is still a risk, so i would just reccomend you stay out". Well i thought what the hell is the point of the stinger net then or the stinger
suit? by this point i had been sunbathing in the sun for a good 45 minutes and just jumped in anyway to cool my body down.
After the beach i decided to go for a walk through the bush on the island to see the secluded bays and the forts and the koalas. Well i set off from horseshoe bay and the walk to the first bay was really nice and when i got to the bay i was the only one there and it truely was amazing, i walked up and down and the rested on a rock looking out over the beach and it really was a moment where you just sat back and thought wow,you dont get very many feelings like that but this was one of them. After 20 minutes or so people came onto the beach and so i decided it was time to head off. I started my walk again and found i had taken a wrong turn, only to turn around and see an italian girl had been following me thinking i was knowing what i was doing. We had a good laugh and she walked with me to the next beach
and then i headed off to try and make it to the forts in time for a sunset. Well three hours later and i still hadnt got anywhere near the forts and with rain looking like it was heading my way i decided to give up and walk back to the hostel. I hadnt seen any Koalas on my 4 hour hike and then i did see one in a tree across the road from the hostel,
That night i talked with the people in my room and we all told our travelling stories then i found a girl in the room was going to be on the same flight as me to new zealand, then i found out she was also going to be on the same flight as me for Melbourne, well i suppose it isnt that strange as all travellers move in the same sort of times and destinations, but it sure felt strange.
The next morning i was to set off for my next destination Mission Beach
