Well i left Rainbow beach to set off for the next stop of Airlie Beach our link to the Whitsunday Islands. I arrived after a mammoth 18hr bus journey where i had to wait around in Hervey Bay for 3 and a half hours, feeling very tired and it being only 6:15am i headed to my hostel to find reception closed and wouldnt be open for another 45 minutes so there i sat there on the road with two other people and talked to them about what they had been upto, the usual backpacker talk which you get into the same conversation with everyone about. Then when reception opened i booked in but couldnt get into my bed till 11:30😞 So off i went to the TV room where i tried to get to sleep, but couldnt, not for lack of trying i will add. Finally i was allowed into my bed and there i slept till 1, i then just wasted the day by reading and going on th internet and wandering around airlie, which is a small place anyway.
The next day i met up with Ian and Alex and then we booked into the boat and
left our luggage anbd at 2 we set sail. Well i wasnt too happy being on a party boat to satrt with but unless your willing to spend alot of money your not really left with much of a choice. Well i thought i would try and enjoy it all the same, however the first thing said to us when we got on the boat was......and i quote "this is a party boat and anyone who doesnt want to party get the f#*+ off my boat or just sit in your room and read a book but whatever you do stay out of my way!" and that was the chef. Well anyway after that awesome introduction we sailed for a bit and then dropped anchor for the night and sat down for a meal of fish to which some idiotic english girl sat next to me said she had never eaten fish before and it tasted like chicken????????hmm not sure what kind of chicken she has been eating! We slept on the boat but the cabins were ok a bit cramped but ok all the same. That night we ate some and drank goon (cheap Ozzy wine in a box)
and expected a party which never seemed to materialise. Well apparently the party happens the second night, hmm ok i will wait for then i thought.
The next day we were up at 7 to have breakfast and then headed to Whitehaven beach with our sexy stinger suits. Which you have to wear unless you like dieing via jelly fish sting. So on we put our sexy suits and went for a dip. After that we got back on the boat and then went snorkelling, which was dissapointing, for me anyway as visability was poor and the snorkelling site was average. We then set sail again for our second night spot where we watched the sun go down and had our meal of spaggheti bolagnese. We also did some jumping off the side of the boat into the water, which was good fun, until later that night we discovered there were sharks swimming about in the water. That night we watched as sharks swam around the ship to be joined by a dolphin who basically just took the piss out of the sharks by swimming amongst them and then when the sharks tried to bite him, hem just swam
away and the sharks tried to follow but where not quick enough.
After the fun of watching the sharks it wass time for the "party" which started off well with most people on the boat joining in the drinking games, but this just turned into an excuse for the people who worked on the boat to get drunk and to get girls drunk who they would try chatting up later. And so the night turned into a non event and i just ended up chatting to two english guys about how crap Steve McClaren is and what needs to be done to get England playing good football again.
Next morning more snorkeling which was much of the same and then back we set for port.
Overall i was very very dissapointed by our trip i am sure there is more to the whitsundays than 1 beach and two snorkelling sites and it felt like the only people who truely have fun on these things are the ozzies who work on the boats. Oh well you live and learn and i learnt you can do the whitsundays in one day and that it was just a glorified booz
Me in my Stinger
calendar pose for November:) cruise.
That night i checked back into dry land and ended up with 6 ozzies in my room on a stag do, they were very loud and didnt sleep at all and then left at 6 to go fishing so i changed rooms. My next room was ok but i did walk into find some one sleeping on the floor who couldnt afford a bed. Well igot talking to the guys in my room and they were a good bunch of lads, except for one who went round to some ozzie guys house and the aussie guy had a pet dingo, to which he told us that the guy stole it when the dingo was a egg, and then said "dingo eggs are meant to be really tasty arent they? umm i didnt have the heart to tell him dingo's dont lay eggs!
Well the next day i set off with my next destination in mind Magnetic Island, i was to leave the dissapointment of the whitsundays behind me and set off for the Koalas in Magnetic Island!
