Crocodile
You can see how close we could get to the crocodiles Hey, Well we moved on from Cairns to Townsville which is supposed to be full of army people, and students so we thought the night life would be great but it was actually a bit quiet. We stayed at a globetrotters in Townsville and it was not the nicest hostel there was a tree growing into the toilet window, and the showers were mouldy. Also we had to share with 2 other guys who both seemed a bit weird, and nobody dared to go in the disgusting swimming pool,so we didnt like it much there.
On the way to Townsville the oz bus we are travelling around on took us to a crocodile farm it was actually pretty amazing. All the crocodiles were in wire mesh enclosures - im sure they could bite their way out! The guy taking us around was actually going into the enclosures with dead birds and going right up to the water the crocodiles would jump out of the water right up to him and he would dangle it in front of them until they were completely out of the water so we could see them. These were some of the biggest crocodiles i
Man sat on Croc
This guy is crazy in my opinion! had ever seen! Bigger than on the crocodile cruise. They also had some baby crocodiles. We then say a cassowary bird which is a bit like an ostrich but smaller and very aggressive they have a huge claw which they can disembowel you with (nice!). The guy was going up to the fence and the bird was just trying to attack him. Then we moved on to a much friendlier animal the kangaroo. They are the first kangaroos i have seen since being in Australia, they were a lot smaller than i thought they would be (a lot of them were females). We went up and hand-fed them bread they were so gentle taking it out of our hand! And their fur was SO soft they were gorgeous i wanted to bring one home. There was also a swamp wallaby there but he kept his distance.
Anyway back to Townsville. After one night in that place we decided not to stay so in the morning of 30th (my birthday!) we got the ferry across to Magnetic Island - which was gorgeous. We stayed in a hostel called X Base. It was right on the beach and it was really
Cassowary Bird
The deadly Cassowary bird chilled out with a bar and restaurant looking out over the water.
We had a day of lazing about in the sun which was cool then there is a bar and restaurant at the hostel so we had dinner there and then when i was playing pool with James the girls start walking over with a big slice of chocolate cake with 2 candles in and break into "Happy Birthday" it was hillarious. We also got cheap bottles of wine which was cool. Then the barman came over and gave me a voucher for 8 free drinks which i traded in for a jug of bear, a jug of sex on the beach, and a vodka and lemonade. Also the barman also gave us free shots of a mixture of jack daniels and aftershock (wasnt pleasant). I got very drunk very quickly i think because since leaving uni i havent been drinking much so i am not used to it. I managed to fall over and cut my knee then i spent a while in the toilet being sick and got put to bed! It was a really good night up until the sick bit. But in the morning everyone
else had a hangover and i felt fine! hehe!
