Hi guys,

Well we are now in Cairns which is in Queensland. Lia (a friend of ours) flew out and met us at Cairns airport which is cool. She coming around Queensland with us for 2 weeks. The first day here we didnt do much sorted ourselves out and went for a look around to see where everything was.
The second day we spent the day at the lagoon which is like a manmade salt water swimming pool that they have built on the street right next to the coast. It looks amazing there is sand around the edges and grass surrounding it with palm trees so perfect for sunbathing. They built it because there isnt much of a beach here and we are not allowed in the sea off the coast because it is jelly fish season and also crocodiles have been spotted just offshore. So the lagoon is where everybody goes and although it was really busy it is so big that there is plenty of room for everybody. It got up to 36 degrees that day which is the hottest it has been since we have been in Australia (that i know of). I used plenty

The Lagoon where we spent the day - it was lush
of sunscreen though - dont want to be getting burnt again. Anyway that was a lush lazy day. And in the evening we went for a mexican dinner - Yum! (not as good as yours though Clare).

The third day we went on a boat trip (on a catamaran) to the great barrier reef which was fantastic. It took 2 hours on the boat to get there so we just lay in the sun and occasionally got splashed by the waves to cool us down. Then we stopped at this TINY island where james, sarah and kate went snorkelling (and saw a turtle), and lia and I went on the glass bottomed boat - we saw Nemo, giant clams, coral that was really colourful, sea cucumber, and loads of other colourful fish. Sarah had an introductory scuba dive too which she loved. Then we went to the Island for a bit too. After lunch we moved on to another reef where i sunbathed on the boat while kate and james went diving and lia and sarah snorkelled. Then we sailed back to Cairns for 2 hours sat at the front of the boat sipping beers - it was such a nice day.

Cairns is a really nice city but it doesnt seem like a city back home it is much smaller and more peaceful. We have today and tomorrow left in Cairns think we are going to stay do some shopping today and just chill out by the pool. Then tomorrow we might go back to the lagoon.
