Supplemental Blog Hello Readers I’ve gotten some requests to give an update on my post ride sightseeing with Karen and to share some of our photos. The pictures will be in a similar chronology that Karen and I visited the cities and sights: We started in Sydney, then flew to Alice Springs, then drove to Uluru (Ayers Rock), then drove back to Alice Springs, flew to Darwin, flew to Cairns, flew to Lizard Island, flew back to Cairns and on to Melbourne, then flew to Sydney, and then back to the states. Karen is a much better tourism director then I am so we did a lot more sightseeing together than I did on my ride. We did the obligatory visit to the Sydney opera house and the full hop on hop off bus tour of ... read more

I am writing this in our journey back from Lizard Island on 15th November. Its about 10pm and after a beautiful day sailing across small waves on a tight reach in about 10 knots, the wind has dropped to just a few knots and we are barely moving. The wind was never quite the easterly predicted and that we wanted, that is until we decided to turn into Cook Town, when it became a fraction north-easterly just when we didn't need it up the rear. This prompted us to change our minds again and continue south through the night as winds were favourable for that direction. We later regretted this, not just because the wind had just dropped out. Just after 8pm when the breeze had already become lighter and the sea flat we had a ... read more

From Flattery we moved on to Lizard Island We didn’t do much for the first 2 days as it was still very windy and raining. On the first night, we had sundowners with 2 couples off 2 other boats. Gary and Lyn from KicknBack and Bob and Helen from Makani Kai. Went for a walk to the other side of the island one day and just as we got to shore, a massive downpour happened. Luckily we hadn't started on our walk and we took refuge in the Marlin Bar. It wasn't open at the time, but still gave good coverage. The next day on low tide we went snorkelling again, Once again, excellent snorkelling. They have a section they call the ‘clam garden’ and it lives up to it’s name. clams everywhere. So many fish ... read more

This is the highlight destination of our trip! We arrived here on our 6 person prop plane! It was pretty amazing to see the Great Barrier Reef from above. We have been to 2 places that you can see from space - The Great Wall of China and now the Great Barrier Reef. We were met at the Lizard Island "airport" pavillion by some of the staff and were taken right to the resort where welcome beverages were waiting. Once we got settled in our room, we got our little boat, our picnic lunch and our snorkle gear and headed out around to Watson's Bay to get a look of the reef from below. There are a few pictures from our first snorkle visit below :) We are pretty happy with the underwater camera so far. ... read more
