a Our plane for the flight from Cairns to Lizard Island. I didn't know that it would be that small!
b Nele in a very small plane, waw, unexpected life time experience which I enjoyed sooo much.
c The 5 passengers, Marilyn and Cath, a resort guest (besides from the research station there is only a resort for 1700 dollars a night!), Ruth and me.
d The GBR ! (Great Barrier Reef is of course much too long to fully pronounce for Aussies)
e All these tones of blue, just beautiful.
f Little islands, many uninhabited. Attractive to go to, don't you think
g We approach our destination
h How more paradise looking can it be
i The mangroves, that's as always our final destination
j They are very scrubby and some bear even only few leaves for a pretty long although zig-zag stem and root network
Cath, Marilyn and me
In the mangroves taking samples.
k The girls on the boardwalk, ready to jump in
l Spot the mangrove researchers
Me and the boat
Me in our boat to get to the mangroves from the research station without having to walk first for 45 min in dull sand.
m Little Aegilitis seedlings. New species for me
n Don't these Lumnitzera roots look like little snakes
o Watsons bay, separated from the mangrove patch by a sand dune
p View from James Cook Lookout. There is one mountain on the island and of course I had to climb it. The Pandanus patch is beautiful, you can imagine elephants walking there
q One side of the island
r Other side of the island. Airstrip is almost the full length of the island
s The day I climbed the mountain it was pretty cloudy but that gave this wonderful view on the never-ending ocean
