After a tiring and stressful pre-trip (organising storage, moving stuff out, cancelling utilities, redirecting mail etc etc etc) I embarked on my journey back to Europe. At the crack of dawn on the 16th of May I kiss goodbye to my flat in the city. Farewell my neighbour who rises at the ungodly hour of 5:30 AM and trudge off to the Skybus several blocks down the street. I pass by a number of early morning comatose commuters and approach the Skybus ticket counter. Will I or won’t I buy a return bus ticket valid for one year. This is the first of thousands of questions I will have to ask myself as I meander across the globe. I’m the last person on the bus which resembles one of Melbourne’s overcrowded suburban trains. It’s amazing how ... read more

Went to the beach cricket this weekend at Coolangatta on the Gold Coast. That's right on the border between Queensland and New South Wales, about an hours train ride from Brisbane. Some of the best Ex England, Australia & New Zealand Players took part. The captains were Alan Border, Graham Gooch & Martin Crowe. Was a fantastic feeling to see some of my childhood heroes playing in such close proximity? I got to the coast early Saturday morning to find a massive queue all the way down the esplanade. Surprisingly once it started to move I was in the ground pretty quickly and moved towards the beer tent. The first game was Australia vs. England which both needed to win to qualify for Sundays final. I decided to make myself comfortable for an afternoon of cricket ... read more

After leaving Grafton the weather detioriated to such an extent that I doubt we'll ever be invited back..and I quote from the newspaper...'The Gold Coast's New Year's Eve fireworks have been cancelled due to the wild weather buffiting south-east Queensland's coast. The Bureau of Meterology has maintained a severe weather warning for areas south of Rockhampton, Fraser Island and the Sunshine and Gold Coasts. Mr Halliday said it was the first time the Gold Coast would be without New Year's Eve fireworks in many, many years' Poor Mim and Dave had to dig very deeply into their thinking caps to occupy us during the rain. We now know all the shopping malls on the Gold Coast, the latest DVD's and even some old ones, how spectacular the sea can become and many other things we never ... read more

On 17th Dec we not only said goodbye to N Z but Aileen and Tony as well. Then following our not without delays flight to OZ, picked up our hire care and drove to Peggy's for more fond farewells to her and Sydney. We began our drive north to Grafton on the East Coast Highway and arrived on 22nd Dec just in time to help with the Christmas festivities. Driving on the East Coast was a lot busier than NZ and for the most part was single lane. The first day we visited the Hunter valley which is famous for its vineyards and Pinot Noir and spent the following few day enjoying a slow drive along the coast stopping for extra days when we found places especially interesting. We were very priviliged when visiting a lighthouse ... read more

We had an early night after our full day at SeaWorld, and so we were up early again on Tuesday morning for our Whale Watching adventure. We were joined by 3 people from Montana, and 2 old blokes from Oz. Our skipper was a hilarious bloke, and we had a really entertaining morning. Skipper John said he loves to watch people's faces when they first see the boat, and I can understand why. It looked like a big dingy! It was surprising stable once you get on board (it's actually the kind of boat they use for rescues), but it wasn't much to look at. The whales were being a little bit shy. For a while, it looked like we would have to be content with the single flying fish that we saw. The water was ... read more

MY BIRTHDAY!!!! Woke up early and opened my presents, I got clothes, earrings, strengtheners, a ds game and lots of bits and bobs! We went out for breakfast; I had a pancake with strawberries, whipped cream and maple syrup. Then we went home and went for a drive around to see what we could find (which wasn’t much!). We came back and had showers, got ready and went out for a meal at the bargara wind mill, then we went bowling, Dad scored 116, Lewis scored 60, mum scored 36 and I got ...7 . Then we found a crazy golf course and played that, mum won, Lewis lost, dad second, and I came 3rd. Then we came home and went to beddi-byes. ... read more
