Road Trip!

One van, two blokes, 5 weeks and 3000 odd kilometres, it was quite an adventure. we picked the van up in sydney which is definatley harder to navigate your way aroud than london, had a few hairy moments especially as i had driven since my test two years ago. bombed up the coast asap, chasing the sun as sydney was ridiculously cold, i had to wear jeans out! our van is basically a hotel on wheels its terrible, fridge, hobs, two double beds and a microwave! defo a aging coulpes van, then again we became a little old couple ourselves, shano cooking me 35c noodles and rice pudding after a long days drive. loads of highlights, fraser island was incredible, largest sand island in the world with crystal clear freshwater lakes in the middle and a 75 mile long beach which is officially a road so u just bomb down it in your 4x4 at 80kmph dodging landing planes, and steering clear of the sea as its a tiger shark breeding ground! camped in the sandunes only to have our goon (cheap boxed wine, cheapest booze so backpackers favourite) knicked by a dingo (wild dog). havent seen any others animals well only dead ones on the side of the road, and the road itself can be interesting, especially when these huge juggernaut trucks steam pass, only a couple of metres away, the whole van shakes. our 3 day sailing trip in the whitsundays was a good laugh. did a crazy drift dive in racing currents out on the great barrier reef, then did a night dive which is probably the best thing ive done on the trip so far. so surreal but relaxing, swimming along with loads of sea turtles. brisbane was cool aswell, cracking nightlife and we visited the XXXX brewery, free beer was included which is always good. so much more expensive out here than asia so weve had to budget on things like food, plenty of homebrand buys and washing, only did one wash in 5 weeks! pretty disgracefull really. all in all an enjoyable and satisfying 5 weeks, really chuffed we drove all that way and didnt kill oursleves! flying to new zealand tonight which is going to be freezing but packed full of extreme sports. hope your all well x
