On Wednesday, Sept 14, the day after we arrived at Yvonne's place in Crows Nest, we packed an over-night bag for our trip up into the Bunya Mountains. Robert had reserved a holiday house up there for us all to stay in for two nights so we could enjoy the wildlife that come out in the evenings. Nights are alive with the sounds of the nocturnal creatures and a myriad of stars on a clear night. The Bunya Mountains is a spectacular wilderness range forming an isolated section of the Great Dividing Range located about 150km from the coast. The immense subtropical range of cool, green rainforest, eucalypt forests and woodlands is home to the world’s largest forest of bunya pines. Time for another update... Last night we had a spectacular Lightening and Thunder storm here in Toowoomba. (see photos) This was at the end of a very hot day (37C) which we pretty well avoided when we headed up to Cressbrook Dam. Today however, we decided to do another (early) day trip to Bunya Mountain, Dalby and then back to Toowoomba for a late lunch at Picnic Point overlooking Table Top Mountain. I must say, what a great day it was. We have been to all these places before when we lived in Toowoomba, BUT depending on the weather, the changing years and seasons, the scenery seems to have gotten better. Burton Sunde and Fix performed for the Dalby Regional Arts Council at a concert under the pine trees on Bunya Mountain. We rented a cottage for the weekend and went for a walk in the rainforest before going home.
