Roadside Moonscape
Bordertown to Pimba Roadhouse Day 2

749 Ks today. Lots of rain and I have the worst head cold so slept most of way thru Adelaide Hills and lower Flinders Ranges. Even the Bee Gees played loud could not keep me awake. Stop off in Port August for some supplies. Free camping tonight at Pimba, in bed by 7.30, intermittent sleep, trains and trucks passing in the night. Befriended by a lovely Blue Heeler at Pimba who stayed for tea, found out next morning he belongs to a local who collects the rubbish. Guess a dog knows a soft touch when he sees it. Everything is looking very green.

Pimba to Cadney Park Roadhouse via Coober Pedy Day 3540Ks today.

Weather improving, headcold not. Intended to stay at CP but been there before and did not look very inviting, so after getting cheap fuel and fresh bread decided to drive North. Could not believe how far the opal fields now go, traveling out of CP the area looks like a moonscape. 23ks north of CP there is one of the best kept secrets "The Breakaways" (thanks R & E for the tip) if you travel this way make

sure you take the turn off 11km down a dirt road you will find the most amazing landscape. Make sure to go to all three viewing areas and if possible get there late in day for the best light. This ancient eroded landscape, colours are formed by differing amounts of erosion over time. Kept going for a few hundred k's more to spend the night at Kadney Park Roadhouse. Good facilities, hot showers for $15/night. We chose this after pulling into a few of the free roadside stops but were put of by the amount of rubbish around (particularly toilet paper). Hey all you travellers Keep Australia Beautiful and only leave your footprints behind!

Cadney Park to Alice Springs 547 ks

Beautiful days drive, almost sunny. Stopped for a coffee at Kulgera R/House (Nescafe Gold). Saw the biggest tip truck on its way from McKay to Geraldton. It will be a long slow drive. Scenery changes dramatically when we enter Northern Territory (NT). Beautiful Sheoakes line the road, starting to see the red escarpments. Approaching Alice started seeing signs for "G'Day Mate C/Park" got to give them A1 for initiative so decided to give them a try. Very
