Ariving at the Opera house
Annette and I arrived at the Opera House at 4.45pm to be greeted by our guide Peter to give us an idividual tour around parts of the Opera House We were lucky enough to be just the two of us so it was an amazing opportunity to see this incredible building in a very personal way He explained how the building had been full of controversy right from the early days of its conception Not only in the design of the building but the amount of money and time it was going to take to build. When it was finally opened on 20th October 1973 by Queen Elizabeth II it had cost $102million the original estimate in 1957 had been $7million The Danish Architect Jorn Utzon was chosen after a competition and he was miles ahead of his time in terms of its shape, being reminicent of sails jutting out into the Bennelong Point where it stands so majestically. Peter Hall took over the interior design of the Opera House when Utzon resigned from the project. Our guide Peter showed us around the building and into the Concert Hall and Opera House explaining the difference between the accousics of the various

venues We had the opportunity to sit in both on our own, it really is an incredible place to visit and I am so looking forward to seeing more in the back stage tour in a few days time.
After an hour of total fasination from us both and the knowledge of our guide it was time for our supper in the magnificent Michelin starred Bennelong Restaurant situated in one of the sails overlooking the city. What a delicious meal it was too and lovely to share this time with Annette We had a real downpour during the meal then an incredible sunset too, quite exciting to watch from inside!! Both the service and food was faultless allowing us to move on to the third element of our "Starry Night" Package a play in the Studio Theatre "The Government Inspector" which was hilarious with two actors playing multiple roles We came out having laughed a lot and having had a truly memorable evening to treasure always.....
Sadly Annette leaves early in the morning for New Zealand but I am very greatful that we were able to meet here to enjoy such a wonderful day together with special thanks to Gary
