Sydney Harbour Bridge by night
Well leaving Hayman Island and arriving in Sydney was a bit of a shock to my system as the weather was a lot colder than I had been used to! I had only worn short trousers since I arrived in Australia so I was grateful that my taxi driver turned up the air con in the limo on the way to The Shangri La Hotel in the Rocks area of Sydney about 20 minutes from the airport to warm me up!! From my room on the 27th Floor I had my first iconic views of the absolutely stunning Opera House and Harbour and Bridge I cant believe I am in a place I had always wanted to visit.........
Annette had arrived in the city the day before so it was lovely to see a friendly face again and we went out for a delicious supper down on the Central Quay over looking the harbour
We had planned an exciting day and evening in Sydney the next day so after breakfast in the hotel we met our guide and driver for the morning, John. Luckily we were the only 2 people on the tour so it was a great way to experience

the city together First of all we travelled around the charming and historic Rocks area close to the Hotel with its quaint old cottages, pubs and churches then on to the Observatory and Millers Point and looking out towards Darling Harbour and the Pyrmont Bridge Then travelling along Macquarie Street, the seat of government from NSW we had our first great vantage point of the Sydney Harbour Bridge for our first photo call!! Then back in the vehicle to drive past St. Mary's Cathedral and through The Domain, a green area in the city and The Botanical Gardens on our way to Mrs Macquaries Chair another famous landmark of Sydney and unsurpassed views of Sydney Harbour, the Opera House and Bridge.
Continuing along the shores of Sydney Harbour we saw the Penthouse home of Russell Crowe in Woolloomooloo Bay before travelling past Rushcutters Bay the home of the Sydney Yachting Club through Kings Cross, Double Bay and Rose Bay seeing more upmarket real estate and the home of Nicole Kidman We stopped at Watson Bay to see the first Peter Doyle famous Fish Restaurant before moving further north to South Head and breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour and and the

city. John then took us to the well known surfer's beach Bondi Bay and the adjacent beach of Tamarama or as it is colloquially known "Glamarama" Bay as all of the people who need to be "seen" come here to show off their tan or fashion or both!
This day they had a very interesting exhibition of sculptures on the beach too so we enjoyed a hot chocolate and a walk around before moving on to Coogee Beach where Annette and Gary and family had come to stay a few years previously Then it was time to head back to the Hotel to end our morning tour of Sydney a most informative and enjoyable time....
After a short break Annette decided it would be good to walk over the Bridge to get a good view of the Opera house from the other side, which was a great idea up until we got half way across and the heavens opened and we got completely soaked! If fact, the Opera House disappeared in the mist so all we could do was laugh at ourselves, stuck haf way across the bridge, a couple of drowned rats, but no doubt something else we will

However, it was going to be an even more memorable evening at the Opera House a little later......
