Kakadu National Park - World Heritage Site
View from Ubir with Kapok Tree (my favourite) in the foreground. Monday 25th September 2006
'Why don't you have a day off from work and we'll go to Kakadu on the way back from Jabiru?' says Katherine.
'OK' says I.
... and off we go!!
Our day out takes us to the Corroborree Park Tavern: and because I'm on an Aussie outback day out it's beer o'clock! After Jabiru and it's international airport (!) we go to Cahill's crossing and the Border Store. Both of these I have been to before. However, that was on the way out of Arnhemland with my eye infection so I hadn't actually seen either of them! This time I was able to appreciate the 'recycling point' and the solar powered telephone!
Ubirr. The artwork was considerably younger than that in Arnhemland @ approximately 6,000yrs old. But it was the views that captured my attention... You just feel so priviledged to be standing there looking at the mass expanse in front of you. It was so beautiful.
As the sun was setting it was time to leave and go squash cane toads on the way home...
