We caught the metro to Circular Quay where the kids saw their first sight of the Sydney Harbour Bridge & the Opera House. Making our way to the point where we could walk up to the stairs to walk along the bridge we came across a large gathering of people with half a dozen or so Aborigines, we stopped to listen to the speech being given by someone who turned out to be a government minister formally announcing the governments recognising "The Rocks" as being First Nation Aboriginal land; after the exchange of paperwork and a few more speeches the Aborigines performed a dance ceremony. We asked one of the Aborigines if we could take their photos at which point Sophie asked are they really real Aborigines, Jacob loved the music and was really impressed with the whole thing which all made for a great start to our day.
Having eventually climbed the stairs up on to the bridge we made our way across taking photos as we went, when we reached the lookout the kids and myself went up the tower, they were really interested in the displays showing how the bridge was constructed, with samples of the
materials used and facts such as how many men worked on its construction and how many rivets were used all with accompanying photos taken at the time, they both came away really impressed.
We pointed out the groups of people already on the bridge structure doing their bridge climb as nobody wanted to do the bridge climb ( fortunately as I couldn't take them due to my health) we continued our walk to the other end of the bridge and returned to The Rocks.
After a short rest we made our way to the Opera House where whilst walking around the outer edge perimeter footpath I noticed on a fenced off series of steps going down to the water, and there was a fur sear with her pup both basking on the topmost step in the sunshine. Every now and again the pup would roll over, each time getting closer to the edge of the 2m drop into the sea we stayed some time watching them by which time a crowd had now gathered so we made our way around the Opera House which the kids were impressed by and went for a rest in the Botanical Gardens, whilst we rested
in the shade the kids let off steam, Sophie managed to find the only mud patch in the gardens and promptly fell in! On their way back to us they made friends with some storks who must of thought they'd got food because they followed them all the way back to us and wouldn't leave them.
We had previously booked what would have been a memorable evening cruise around the Bay with evening meal but it was cancelled by email a couple of days before we arrived so we ended up having a meal in one of the restaurants around Circular Quay whilst we watched the light fading and soaked in the evening atmosphere, we returned to the hotel tired and very happy.
