hello all,
well today i woke up as fresh as a diaisy ...... zzzzzzzzz all night , thank god !!!!! so i was up, washed, dressed, breakfasted and out by 9am ......... fist port of call was to go and buy tickets for King Lear at the Opera house for tonights performance, I'll come back to the king later on. After that i went on a lovely walk around the Botanical gardens that are opposite the opera house. The most gorgious gardens on the most beautiful day, there are signs all around the gardens saying " please walk on the grass, smell the roses and hug a tree or two" ...... so after a very interesting guided tour that told me all about the vegetation and their increading problem wiht bats (huge fruit bats, hundreds of them, all flying around and sqalking) I took my sandals off and walked bare foot through the park ............ heavenly.
Then it was a 30 minute ferry ride under the bridge and off to Darling Harbour, What a beautiful place it is. Lots of restaurants on the waterfront, lots of sitting areas to relax in, and the most amazing water features that are
all around it. Lots of phots taken, fruit and "a nice cup of tea" for lunch and then it was off to the Chinese gardens, that were built to celebrate Oz's 200 hundred year anniversary. Lovely gardens all very tranquil in the centre of a busy, busy harbour, plus a chance to dress up as a chinese emporess .......... well it seemed rude ot to !!!!
Then it was time to come home, so i decided to walk ------- which shound have taken me 40 mins, so obviously it was 75 mins later when a tired and slightly sweaty Karen got back to the hostel. However I got to see lots of places I wouldn't have otherwise seen (I do so like to play the "glad game")
SO ....... then it was Opera House time !!!! there was 5 of us, 4 from the hostel and Paul the lovely guy I went out with last night. We had all dressed up for the occasion, and looked pretty fabulous even though we said so ourselves. We went for a pre-show drinky-poo on the harbourside with hundres of beautiful people, I really felt very "in" ......... various photos were taken
as a souvener of this prestidious occasion. Then it was show time !!!!!
And then the lights dimmed, the audience hushed and, it began ........... and I can honestly say it was ....................... awfull, crap, very hard to follow and boring !!!!!! lots of the audience were very twichy, so it wasn't just us uncultured 5 . At half time we thought we might leave but felt the occasion of being in the Sydney Opera House was too big to bail out............. so we stuck by it till the bitter end, I fell sleep at one point and jumped up (like u do) and almost landed in Pauls lap !!!!!!! enuff said ............. however, the evening was finished off with a lovely meal - so all was right again
So i'm off to bed now, blue mountains tomorrow.
take care from me xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
