Breakfast :)
Basically all Chris and I do is eat, so one morning we made yummy mickey mouse pancakes :) Friday: No class! Yay! My friend from the study abroad program, Ami, came up to visit me at school and we just hung out around the mall and then went to my friend Nick's place for an Entourage marathon and we had apples with nutella (my personal fave) and he made awesome quesadillas for us. Later, we went to the administration building (where I spend a lot of time... they have a flat screen tv, a wii, ping pong table, and a pool table...) So Ami and I went to the Admin bldg and met up with my neighbors and watched the (insanely long) but AMAZING opening ceremony for the Olympics (anyone else see it??). It was super fun, then Nick, Ami, and I ended up falling asleep off and on in there on the bean bags and couches and ended up not going home til about 4am.
Saturday: Ami and I headed back into Sydney around 5pm and grabbed some food at the mall. We got ready then met up with my neighbor Chris, whose sister lives just a block away from Ami in Bondi Junction, and so we had really good pizza with his sister and her friend.
Star Bar
Ami and I at Star Bar in the city on Saturday night. Then we went back to Ami's place and there was a little party going on for one of her roommates birthdays... then we went out to downtown Syd for the night. Did I mention how much I love dancing here? Watching guys dance is the best thing ever. And not to mention, their Australian style of mullets and super super tight pants. It was a rather late night, but we ended up meeting up with Nick, Chris, and his sister and her friend at another bar. On our way to the 2nd bar in The Rocks, a nice district in Syd, we saw in the distance a replica of the Eiffel Tower!! It was so cool!!
Today: CITY2SURF! I was up bright and early (7am) and took the train to Hyde Park to find Matt, our Resident Director that I was doing the race with. He brought along a lady friend, Ainsley, who was Australian. We didn't get going with the race until about 9:30ish because it took forever to get people moving... there were 75,000 people! IT WAS CRAZY!!! It was 14k, which I'm pretty sure is right around 10 miles or so... 2 of which were uphill
City2Surf
Iowa Represent! Matt and I, both Iowans, getting ready for the 14k. and killer. It was a little cloudy in the morning but cleared off into a perfectly sunny and gorgeous winter day in which I could wear shorts and a t-shirt 😊
The course took us all along different harbors which were GORGEOUS... it was such a good way to see different parts of Sydney! The race took us about 3 hours to complete, but we were just speed walking, no running for us 😊 Along the way were booths with gatorade and water... and through some towns there were bands, some playing on the roofs and stuff - really cool. Also, some people dress up for the race if they go in groups or with their families... some good looking men ran in speedos 😊 One family dressed up like The Flintstones, one group as Star Wars characters... and there were many people pushing others in wheelchairs or carrying people on cots. The race ended at the famous Bondi Beach, and this was my first time seeing it, and even though it was cloudy by the time we reached it, it was GORGEOUS. And of course, there were people everywhere. 75,000 people is A TON of people 😊 Overall,
75,000
Follow the road and look at all the people!! And that's just 1/4 of them!!! CRAZY!! I'm really glad I did it because I got my legs looking nice for swimsuit season (haha) and I got some great shots on my camera.
My Upcoming Week: Diving into classes and a BUNCH of reading! Will fit in some intense job hunting in there as well. Otherwise, nothing special this week, gonna take it easy, save some money, and get into school mode. Ami is coming back this week on Thursday for the Uni Bar (all schools here have bars literally built into them), so they have theme parties which are supposed to be the high point of every week, then I'm hoping to take her hiking around the park that's 5 minutes away! Maybe a trip to Ikea in there somewhere so
Hope everyone had a great weekend as well!! Leave me some comments 😊
