The residents of Sydney refer to themselves as Sydneysiders. Hundreds of thousands
move to Sydney every year to work, live and study. It’s one of the best cities in the world to live, but once you’re there you’ll want to talk and live like a local, blend in, and be able to share local knowledge with people who come to visit you there. Here’s what you need to know:
What to Do in Your Spare Time There’s plenty to do in Sydney year-round, but things change with the seasons. In Summer it’ll be mostly beaches, bays and bush walks, and in winter museums, ice skating and indoor entertainment, you’ll find so much to fill your weekends and holidays in any season.
In the Warmer Months: ⦁ The big beaches like Bondi, Manly and Cronulla, head out to surf or sunbathe.
⦁ The smaller bay beaches in the harbour like Shark Bay, Balmoral and Seven Shillings.
⦁ Explore the Blue Mountains, with many short and long bush walks, and camping.
⦁ Murray Rose Pool in Double Bay with two floating pontoons to jump off with kids.
⦁ Coastal walks like Bondi to Coogee
⦁ Centennial Park
⦁ Taronga Zoo
⦁
The Royal Botanic Gardens
⦁ Picnics in Sydney Park, and the new older kids playground there
In the Colder Months: ⦁ Museums and Art Galleries
⦁
Coogee Pavillion has a really nice indoor board games space, and a great pizza menu.
⦁ Ice Skating, at Macquarie centre (also has bowling & laser tag), or Sydney Ice Arena.
⦁ For the women, have a Spa Day at ‘Gillian Adams Spa’ or ‘Bath Houses’.
⦁ For the men, Maniax axe throwing centre, next door to a brewery.
⦁ For the kids, ‘sky zone’ trampoline park, or ‘Climb Fit’ indoor rock climbing.

Where to Take Friends from Out of Town In Summer they’ll obviously want to check out Bondi Beach, but take them to Manly too, and to one of the smaller bay beaches as well. Cabbage Tree beach and Gordon’s beach are also great for snorkelling and not too challenging for first timers.
Take them to the Opera house at night, to see it lit up and the city lights, and if you get there just before 7pm you can check out the free light show
Badu Gili they have on now.
Hang out in some cool cafés, there’s so many nice cafés around Sydney, but if you want to wow your guests take them to some of the more interesting ones like
Celsius Coffee Co, a floating café off the wharf in Kirribilli, or one of these
10 quirky cafés. To have a more traditional, proper English afternoon tea head to
The Tea Cosy in The Rocks district.
For a bit of fun in the evening, take them out to one of the cities’
Escape rooms , out shopping in one of the city malls or shopping districts, or to one of Sydney’s
top bars.
Conversation Topics If you want to sound like a local, there are a few topics you can bring up to show people you understand the struggles and positives of daily life there. First, complain about the awful traffic getting to work in the morning. Second, complain about trying to find a parking spot at one of the bigger beaches like Bondi or Manly. Thirdly, talk about a new coffee place you found recently with great coffee, or a new bar that has an interesting craft beer on tap. Sydneysiders enjoy finding new places and trying
new foods and drinks, if you find anything new and interesting be sure to share it in conversations with other locals, but do it casually in case it’s actually more well known than you think, such as ‘I was having a nice coffee/beer in … the other day, have you been there its near ….’, and go from there.
Date Night in Sydney Once you enter the dating scene, or want somewhere nice to go with your current partner, there’s plenty of places to consider. If you really want a memorable night try something other than going to a traditional bar or restaurant, even though there are some really brilliant ones around the city. Here’s a few out of the box places to try:
⦁ Eat Yum Cha, this is quite popular in Sydney and you’ll find many places to get it, but some of the best are: The Eight, Marigold, The Dynasty, and Bodhi for vegan options.
⦁ Go to.
Zensation Chinese tea house in Surry Hills. They serve food like dumplings too.
⦁ Have a picnic at one of the smaller beaches, or find a quiet spot in one of the many parks and gardens throughout
the city.
⦁ Go to.
Catmosphere cat lounge café, how people interact with animals can tell you a lot about their personality, you’ll enjoy it too and can stroke cats to calm nerves.
⦁ Try indoor sky diving together at
⦁
iFly, it’s really an exhilarating experience.
⦁ Go Ice Skating together at Sydney Ice Arena or the Macquarie Centre.
