Arrived in Sydney yesterday, got from the airport to the hotel in less than one hour and it was rich hour. Trains were very efficient and it was only a short walk to the hotel. It's in a really great position literally two minutes to the ferry and a boat ride to Central Sydney which takes about five minutes. Decided to take the ferry across, arrived at Central Wharf which is where all the ferries run from in Sydney harbour. Walked round to the Opera house which is five minutes from the ferry terminal, was hoping to find something to go and see there but there wasn't much on this week. The roof of the Opera House which was designed by the Danish architect Jorn Utzon was tiled much to my amazement. Fantastic piece of architecture. ... read more

After a quick, very un-Christmassy Christmas in Singapore, eating Subway sandwiches and watching Harry Potter in our hotel room, we were feeling all Asia’d out so we boarded the plane on 27th December bound for Sydney in excitement and great anticipation (if only for the luxury of the aeroplane itself – free drinks? I’ll have the bubbly thanks!) We landed shortly before midnight and rocked up at our lovely little hotel in Kirribilli whose name I will not put on here for fear of it becoming overrun and our not being able to stay there on our next visit! It was small but homely and clean in a fantastic location, just a short walk from a fantastic view of the Harbour Bridge and across to Sydney Opera House. We had shipped over suitcases of clean and ... read more

Thursday 30th December – North of Sydney Harbour Bridge Arrived in Sydney early AM (after no sleep) and headed to beautiful Kirribilli: Spectacular views – Amazing images of otherworldly coast and iconic city skyline as the plane flies past the city, banks over the sea and heads back in to land. Jacqui and the gang – Warm welcomes from Jacqui, Rhubarb and Jackson (Cavalier Spaniels) as we settle into the Australian vibe. Bridge and Opera House – Just a stone’s throw to the iconic bridge, with the opera house the other side of the water – strange to see these in real life after so many 2D images. Friday 31st December – In a rush to Celebrate After a long lie in to recover, a quick visit to Manly Beach and then back for the celebrations: ... read more

Sydney wasn't my favorite town. Compared to Canberra, with it's free cultural and historical centers, Sydney didn't have much to offer. Sure, if I had $30 to blow on two hours of entertainment, Sydney could have been a ball. But since I was trying to travel on somewhat of a budget, I was a bit dismayed by how expensive everything was. I spent four days in Sydney, which I would have gladly shaved down to three. The first day I meandered down to the circular quay, which is where all the ferries come into port. It's essentially the transportation center of Sydney, and I made the mistake of living across the Sydney Harbor in Kirribilli. Although my location was physically located directly between my two farthest destinations, the capital theater and the Taronga zoo, I actually ... read more

For 15TH August, Well not much sleep had last night, but a great night out with all my kids for David’s birthday. I still can’t believe that 28 years have passed since he was born! It seems like yesterday at times. It was so good that Alana came up from Hobart for the occasion, and very special that both she and David were able to see us off at the airport this morning (and Amina too, of course). After a quick changeover in Melbourne, we arrived in Sydney at around 1.30 p.m to an absolutely gorgeous day. Blue skies, sunny sky and a lovely 22 degrees. So much different to the cold, grey skies and rain that we had left back home. So, after dropping our gear off at the apartment in the city, we headed ... read more

We woke early this morning making it to the Devonport airport nice and early... I spent the whole night on the toilet (lets just say I was very very nervous)! One valium, sweaty palms and the constant desire to spew we took the dashboard pavillion plane from Devonport to Melbourne. I wasn't impressed with the propellers but as soon as we reached altitude it was time for descent so I was happy with that. The plane from Melbourne to Sydney was a huge boeing 764-300. By the time we boarded the valium had kicked in so I was comfy and the flight was as smooth as vegemite. We spent the day on the north side of Sydney staying at our mates Adam and Lucy's place. The views are amazing and we can see the harbour bridge ... read more

G'day mates, how are you going? Again it has been a while and I think it is high time I (Edina) added an entry. We are now in Sydney having a blast as the whether has finally been kind to us and sent some glorious sunshire our way. Believe it or not Lee actually got himself a pair of flip flops (not sure if we already mentioned that) and is now showing them off pretending to be local. Ha ha. Nice try. We arrived last Friday and met up with our friends, Detti and Jason, who organised a weekend up in Hunter Valley. We drove up Friday night to our cute rented cabin in the middle of the 'bushes' with a fire place and a spa bath... Saturday morning we got up bright an early and ... read more
