The drive up from the Blue Mountains to Port Stevens turned out to be a lovely scenic drive that went really quickly due to all the beautiful harbors and cool looking mountains and stuff we pasted on the way up. We arrived at a new campsite just around from Nelson bay, we were luckier this time not only was it warmer here but we also had use of a camp kitchen and there was even a TV in there to watch once the sun went down, yippee! Port Stevens is a huge natural harbor which is also the self proclaimed ‘dolphin capital of Australia’ and also boasts having the largest moving sand dunes in the southern hemisphere! What a lot of books don’t mentions that much is that we were surrounded by 26 golden beaches ... read more

Hello peoples its El here, I know its been a while we been so busy travelling and sitting on beaches and all that stuff that we now have the lovely task of catching up on the blogs, so it continues.... We left Sydney and decided to stop off at Port Stephens on the way to Byron Bay, partly to break up the long travelling and also cos I had heard of dolphins on the beaches here. So after 2 hours on the greyhound bus to Newcastle it was then another 2hours on the local coach to Port Stephens. When we arrived at our accomedation we was nicely suprised, it was in a camp site in a forest area, with cabins and tents for accomedation. We was given the choice of a dorm in the cabin or ... read more

First Aussie Christmas spent 3 hours up the coast, staying in a luxury house, right on Anna's Bay, Port Stephens. Was a real Cheltenham affair, bar Jim Bob who added a much needed Essex edge to the whole proceedings! Caspar, Nicola and Jim Bob headed home on the 27th for work. Toby Robinson and Ben stayed an extra two nights camping by the beach! Awesome time had by all......... read more

So the heat has finally arrived.. and let me tell you it is HOT! The sun here is so strong... after being really responsible and putting on sunscreen all day we still somehow managed to get fried our first day on the beach. We left Newcastle after only staying a couple nights at this ghetto little hostel and went to Port Stephens which was amazing.. The hostel there was right in the rainforest and we had our own little cabin with a balcony.. so cute.. The place also had a saltwater pool, a games room with a free pool table and a sweet outdoor kitchen. The people who owned it were soo nice... The weather was hot and sunny all weekend and we really liked this place so we decided to stay for 3 nights. We ... read more

Russell - In our attempt to see some of New South Wales before we have to move on we decided it was time to do a touristy thing and get on a tour up the coast. The most appealing thing seemed to us to be wine tasting in the Hunter Valley but we came across a tour which combined this with dolphin spotting as well as other activities in Nelson Bay so we paid the bit extra for the combined tour. It was an early start for a Sunday, but the bus picked up outside our appartment so it wasn't far to walk. We were sharing the day with a Japanese couple and a boisterous group of 14 Indonesian students. Everyone was in good spirits and John, our driver, started his commentary. The drive up to ... read more

After our New Years celebrations, Carina and I finally made our way to Nelson Bay (where we had entended on taking a day trip a couple of times before). Many locals had recommended Nelson Bay to us, including Jamie, who had spent all his summers here at a caravan park with his grandparents. However, in the past few years, the area has become a huge tourist hub. Luckily for me, being a tourist hub isn't always a problem, and it meant that there were lots of activities to chose from. On the first day though, Carina and I were exhausted due to a definite lack of sleep, so we crashed early (after finding a campground near One Mile Beach). The next day we took the bus back to Nelson Bay and found a Dolphin Tour that ... read more
