Went for a late breakfast in Randwick with Steph and Ellie - had the best Raisin Toast in the world…. ever!
Paid $18 for an All Day bus and ferry pass. We went past loads of people in the parks eating Al Fresco with their friends or reading books on their lunch-hour. At home I not many people sit in parks even in nice weather, unless maybe when they're with friends. Over here it’s so much more common to see people sat on their own, or exercising in the sunshine.
Got in to the city centre then walked to Sydney Harbour to board our ferry to Manly, which is about 30 minutes away. Walked round some of the shops on the main pedestrian street, then went for lunch along Manly beach, which is full of cafés and restaurants. Hit the beach for a few hours, but we stayed in the shade as we were still a little bit pink from yesterday.
Arrived back in Randwick by 5pm. We were nearly ran over walking back to Sam’s! The drivers over here are maniac’s, absolutly lethal. Pedestrians are completely ignored so it can be pretty hard to cross busy roads at rush hour.
Even if the traffic is grid-locked, drivers don’t tend to let you past. You can also be done for Jay Walking by Police if you cross a main road without using the Pedestrian Crossings.
Had some drinks then persuaded Sam to come out with us to Coogee Bay where we were meeting one of Steph’s friends called Katie Turner. She’s one of those people who is always identified by their full name.
We went to The Palace for their $5 Steak Night. The food was really good considering how cheap it was. Then went to The Coogee Bay Hotel (aka CBH) which is the biggest bar in Australia. It’s got loads of different rooms; separate bars, and a huge beer garden out the front. Steph, Ellie and I steadily made our way through a couple of bottles of wine, then Sam got a few rounds of Tequilla shots in. Ellie pointed out that girls get “Tequilla Nipples” when you do shots of this drink. Have a look next time you do it, you’ll know what I mean.
Katie Turner made us laugh when she told us she’d got a date with a guy who’s really “minging and 'orrible”, but she
said at least he’s Australian! (Her 2 year VISA runs out soon). Played the “I have never” drinking game where you go round the table and say a statement (eg I have never: shoplifted) and if you or the people you’re with have in fact done this, then you/them have to take a sip of your drink. Its a good way to find out interesting secrets about your mates.
Went inside to watch the live band but they were just packing up, so we finished our drinks then headed home to Sam’s in a taxi. We stopped off for ice cream on the way back and the taxi driver spooked Ellie while we were in the shop. Opened 2 bottles of expensive wine that Sam had been keeping for a special occasion, then had a cupcake fight and got crumbs all over Sam’s living room. A great night had by all.
