Well, all good things must come to an end including long vacations. We're jumping on a plane home soon. The benefit of a extra long vacation though, is that you are actually looking forward to some things at home like your own bed and having a home. Moving every 2 days gets tiring. I don't know how people travel for months on end. We were at Byron Bay for the last few days. Byron is a very cool place that was a little different than I thought it might be. For example, we stayed at The Arts Factory which is a 5 acre site that started the Byron Bay boom of arts and music and hippies. Naturally, I thought we would be living in a hippie commune but there was surprisingly few hippies. It turns out ... read more

Well, the final time has come... It is just past midnight, and later today, we must leave these shores and travel far, far away... Just get over us okay... what are you? in love with us or something? its pathetic :) Anyway, we have had a great final night at the legendary 'Alex Hotel Friday Night Gay Night'... Not to mention it was watson's birthday, so there was much goodness to be had! I feel very shocked that after waiting so long for the day to come, I am actually a bit nervous... but I am sure that this feeeling will pass once we are on the plane and on our way. I will miss everyone heaps. Kristy says Hi, she wont miss any of you, now she cares only for Stella Artois (available in France ... read more

While staying at marks house I used one of the two days to explore Sydney on foot and the other to visit the Blue Mountains. Originally I'd planned to spend two days there but because of time restrictions that stopped me from doing one of the longer treks I decided to do all the easily accesible stuff and get it over with in one day. When I first arrived in Katoomba (the main jumping off point for visiting the Blue Mountains) it was raining and showed no sign of letting up but I thought I'd make the most of it and went exploring some of the trails that go through the forest - it was actually much nicer walking through forest that was covered in mist and where everything was dripping wet. I'd stopped at one ... read more

Hello!! Sorry, its been weeks again hasn't it! My apologies (to Pat especially!). To save having loads of writing on one entry, I'm going to break the past month into a few, to help all of you with small attention spans! There's quite a few photos too, (i think) so I don't want to clog things up!!! So, anyway, I think the last time I emailed it was just before my last day at the job. We went out for a few drinks with CPSU on the Friday, which was really nice and then we did something on the Saturday as will, but I’m not sure what it was, as in my diary I’ve just written “go out” so that’s really helpful! The Sunday, we went to see The Producers at the outdoor cinema at Centennial ... read more

Hi there everyone! Welcome to the blog of Kristy (Stuey) and Susan (susan). Also known (now) as CharleezAngelz on account of our dog being named Charlie, and our house being on Angel street. (ah yes, it all comes into place) Anywho, in exactly 11 days we will be blowing this popstand and flying to London, then Lyon, then Paris, then London (again) then Tokyo, and then home again. This is Kristy's first ever trip overseas, and the first one I have done in like 10 years - so it is very exciting. And thanks to all of you who are interested in our trip, we hope that our entries will not bore the pants off of you (too much). Recent news is that Kristy bought herself a Digital SLR camera, so hopefully we will be uploading ... read more

Hello everyone! I'm writing from the town of Katoomba in New South Wales, about 1 hour west of Sydney. I spent two noisy and sleepless nights at the hostel in King's Cross, the red light district of the capital. Tired and overheated, I decided that I needed a break from it all and get into the mountains again. Just a few days removed from New Zealand, I was already suffering withdrawal. Luckily, the transit system in Sydney is fantastic. Think clean double level trains, wide flatscreen displays above the platform and branches to every possible destination. I took a ride out to the Blue Mountains, a beautiful and extremely popular weekend getaway for city dwellers. Katoomba is just one of many small towns scattered across the main highway that winds its way through the nature reserve. ... read more

Got up way too early for train to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. Hopped straight on to the Explorer Bus, a bright red London double-decker, they get everywhere! Did some walks through forest and jungle, past waterfalls and fantastic scenic lookouts over the canyon. The blue haze comes from oil vapour rising from the eucalyptus trees. Walked to echo point for the classic postcard photo of the Three Sisters then walked over to one of them. Walked through the jungly hills around Leura Cascades and towards Gordon Falls, which was more of a trickle due to the lack of rain. Got the train back and ate a late fry up and sampled a pint of the local VB beer. Another tiring but fun day.... read more

A horrendous hangover saw me and the boy wonder (Adam), trudge down to Central station at ridiculous-o'clock in the afternoon, I say ridiculous because the aim was to get out of Sydney as early as possible to get the train up to the Blue Mountains and get in two full days of bushwalking, but the Beer Monkey had other ideas and had obviously drugged us the night before and been jumping up and down on our heads as we slept. With our loaded backpacks, and thumping headaches and the standard hangover panacea - McDonalds - we journeyed up to Katoomba. In usual fashion, we had no idea where we were going, other than a train station, but I'm starting to learn that flying by the seat of your pants isn't always destined for failure, and sure ... read more

After arriving in Sydney and hanging out in Manly for a couple of days I decided to take myself off to the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, by train. I stayed in Katoomba, a queer hilly town that reminded me of those small French/Italian Alpine towns you suddenly come across when driving through the, er, French/Italian Alps. This might have been something to do with the 10 degree temperature drop (well, it felt like it!) and the swirling mist as the train climbed higher and higher from the suburbs of Sydney. I did some good walks on my own round and down by the Three Sisters and National Pass and across to Katoomba Falls, walking through rain and eucalypt forest. You can see why the Blue Mountains are so named. The fine mist of moisture and ... read more
